Maybe the Dynadot registrar was sold recently?

I registered the .com domain with Dynadot today, but the WHOIS shows a different registrar

Have you registered the domain using Dynadot?
Maybe they used a reseller to register your domain. I'm just guessing.

We have a unique opportunity to offer our Super Bulk users $8.99 .COM Registrations! This promotion is very different from our regular ones, as we're only able to offer this through a partnership with other Registrars due to our Verisign Baseline being higher than last year.

Here's more information on how it works and what the rules/restrictions are:

• When the code 899COM is entered at checkout, your .COM registrations will have their price reduced to $8.99
• Once registered, the domain will appear in your 'Manage Domains' summary as per usual, however, on the WHOIS the domain will show as belonging to another white-label Registrar for the first year.
• If you choose to renew, the domain will then be transferred to our Registrar. You can still set your Name Servers/push to another Dynadot Account and sell your names on our marketplace as you would any regular Dynadot name!
• Domains registered cannot be renewed within the first 60 days, as the renewal prompts a transfer to our Registrar which the names will be unavailable for due to the 60 day Registration lock that prohibits transfers. After the 60 day mark, you can renew and transfer as you would any other domain.
• Domains registered under this are not eligible for both Afternic Fast Transfer or Sedo MLS, as the other Registrars do not have this functionality. Only once the names are renewed (transferred to Dynadot) will they be able to be listed in the respective programs (but can still of course be listed directly on their markets same as you would other domains).

We are given a limited amount to register at this price every quarter, so once the number runs out the code will be inactive. Code is active now!
