domains Major Problem: Centralnic will delete 8 extensions and their domains in 2017, f.i. .no.com

I was baffled by reading the following title =>"CentralNic To Delete Several SubDomains-Websites From 8 Domains Like .GB.COM or .NO.COM"
The article is from Konstantinos Zournas May 4, 2016
and can be read here => (at onlinedomain.com)
http://onlinedomain.com/2016/05/04/domain-name-news/centralnic/
This is really unprecedented !! (BTW sorry I can't change these big letters, I don't know how tho change this).
According to the article 8 extentions are involved =>

.AR.COM, .GB.COM, .HU.COM, .KR.COM, .QC.COM, .NO.COM, .SE.COM, AND .UY.COM !!!
They would vanish in april 2017 !. For people who have domains like these (and I'm one of them) it's very strange => these are (next year : "were" ?) alternative extentions in case the domains .kr or .hu were occupied.
There are others that "won't vanish" => like de.com a.o.... In exchange you would get a .xyz-domain of your choice next year or a co.com as compensation.
Anyhow : I find this NOT DONE, just like Konstantinos thinks about this.

THE WHOLE PONT IS ==> WHO CAN TRUST CENTRALNIC in the FUTURE if this remains to be true and real domains (that are payed for sometimes for 6 year etc. ..) . I don't know what to do : renew my domains in these extentions in 3 days or not because they are already after expiry, and I'll probably won' have ananswer by then ???

In the meantime Konstantinos wrote ANOTHER ARTICLE 7 TH of JUNE , because if he writes to the head of Centralnic he doesn't get any answers. And he wrote a sarcastic article filling in "possible answers" the boss (Ben Crawford) in fact by not responding would give, because he keeps silent. This article is of the 7th of june from Konstantinos Zournas. ==> HERE =>
http://onlinedomain.com/2016/06/07/domain-name-news/centralnic-ignores-questions-will-answer-behalf/

In the first article You see the following at the end =>
+44 (0) 203 515 0085
and the emailadress ==>
[email protected]
If I call that number , I hear an english voice saying that "The number you have dialed is not in service".

=> AND THIS IS ALSO WHAT I GOT AS ANSWER when I first called to Centralnics normal number on their website. (I did that last wednesday or thursday before closing time there in Great Brittain) :

On the following page you find the other quartes of Centralnic =>
https://www.centralnic.com/contact/getintouch weree you can write something down.
=> If you scroll down you find the phone in the US and the one in China + address.

I phoned the normal Centralnic-number on their website and when I began about this problem (what should I do with domains I have under these extentions that have to be renewed within 3 days (from today, then it was still 6 days) or the would go into Redemption ? => Then the lady on the phone referred me to the phonenumber +44 (0) 203 5150085 and the emailaddress [email protected] . She said that "they were responsable".. When I called her back stating that the number was not in service (because I tried the number from my country), she said that wasn't possible !! She again replied she couldn't do anything , I should email to that emailaddress.. When I protested and notified her, that she works in the same firm, she said that she couldn't do anything again she was not responable.

=> I WANT TO ASK YOUR HELP IN THIS ISSUE and send protestmails to that emailaddres (I didn't check tjhat yet, and hope it's working).

==> Do know that the relatively young boss of .XYZ Daniel Negari started back in time with one of such extentions when he was younger and so gatherred money to the afterwardsstart of .XYZ => The extention he was the boss of was ".de.com" as alternative for .de. ==> This extension .de.com is according to the article of 4th of may not in danger. Only the 8 that are in the article (and I posted here above) will be deleted along with all the domainnames (an eventual websites) on these domainnames.

If anybody knows his emailaddress, I would send him emails too. This is not done. This aren't new extentions that fail. These already exist for many many years.

==> What do you think about this, and what can be done about it ???
And moreover => Is .xyz safe.Is any extention of Centralnic still safe to invest in ??

Please comment here and call Centralnic and send emails , and ask questions about this precedent, so it can be stopped.
And also write or phone to the well-known Daniel Negari of .xyz about this.

I WONDER IF THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO THE FOLLOWING EXTENTIONS ALSO SOMEWHERE IN THE FUTURE => https://www.centralnic.com/portfolio/newtlds/overview , https://www.centralnic.com/portfolio/cctlds or
Thanks and Kind regards.

IMPORTANT NOTE : IF THE MODERATORS FIND THIS THREAD IS NOT ACCORDING TO THE RULES of NAMEPROS, THEY CAN DELETE IT, OR WRITE AN OWN ARTICLE ABOUT IT.
But I find it too important NOT tot alk about it.
(BTW => Konstantinos is already writing about possible courtcases).

THE THREAD MAY BE CANCELLED ALSO IF THIS PROBLEM WOULD GO AWAY WITH GARANTIES OF THE PERSONS INVOLVED / CENTRALNIC.

I find this notboring, OK it's a long text, but THIS IS REALLY A MAJOR PRECEDENT THAT STILL CAN STOPPED.
Anyhow I just sent an email to [email protected] . PLEASE DO THE SAME and take time to read it.
DO KNOW THAT .XYZ is ALSO a domainname from Centralnic !!!
If Centralnic deletes 8 extentions in 2017, what will happen in the future with .XYZ that they also manage ?? Every domainer and several end-users should be concerned !!

these extensions are not real extensions they are fake subdomains. Subdomains are not regulated.

In XY.GB.COM is xy is the subdomain and the domain is GB.com - It is a Verisign registry domain.

The question is why are they deleting them? I would say since LL.com are very valuable right know the company has figured out that selling the domains is more profitable than selling subdomains under it.

While .xyz uses the CentralNic backend it is a real extension and regulated differently.

Domainers should still be concerned but for other reasons:

1. Extensions can go bankrupt
2. Regulations allow setting renewal rates to any amount the registry wants to any time they want to even if the domain has already been registered.

So if you buy shop.xyz for $10 with renewal rates of $10/year to launch an online shop, the registry could decide at a later point in time that shop is a premium keyword and the renewal rates need to be $1000/year or maybe $10000 or any other amount they want to and you would have to either pay this amount or let the domain drop.

Doesn't help your situation, but to anyone else thinking of buying a subdomain "extension"...

Don't bother.

If CentralNic was doing this for so long, selling a subdomain as domain, it raises serious eyebrows on their business model itself.
Now we need to be cautious to purchase any second level domain!

That's true. You are not buying domains, you are only renting subdomains.

Anyone care for yourname.brandon.domains? It's only $10 a pop per year :-D

Thanks,
Brandon

I'm not convinced of that.

In one of the articles it is told by Konstantinos that Cdentral, nic probably only wants get rid of those second level domains that are not profitable, or have not much registrations. All the others will stay. The "de.com" must have been very profitable and used much, cause Daniel Negari, became rich enough with it tot suggest (180.000 usd) a .xyz extention, and now we see how enormous the amount of .xyz-domains is.

What I find so strange is that they don't answer questions about it !

DO try contacting them and protest !! (email and phones in 1st message here).

One of the extentions, the CN.COM (so not .com.cn) is a very good alternative, to avoid that the Chinese Government cancels (what they do) registrations under .cn, .com.cn,.net.cn, etc...that have anything to do with porn or political things and many other censureship (I think gamblingwordsare 1 of them also).
When I registerred (years ago, but the Chinese Government goes along without) under .cn something like "OlympicsBeijing.cn" and some adultdomains. they vanished after a month or were not registerred any more.
NOT SO with CN.COM, as CENHRALNIC is the boss of this 2nd level-extention. So NO censorship ! And cn.com is not 1 of the that they intend to stop. (so, is not 1 of the 8 that will be cancelled).
These extensions HAVE their advantage as alternative.!!

Probably there are reasons (not enough registrations for the 8 extentions concerned), for what Centralnic does now,
But I find it sad as precedent that they cancel some of these extentions.

Kind regards from Domainstore, and dotryto contact them or protest.
This is a dangerous precedent.

I don't find this funny at all. For all the domainers that invested and bought domainnames in these extentions over the years. Maybe even several years in a row.

Yes, right there. Painful too. Sigh

Well if you invest in third level domains then you are at the mercy of the owner of the second level domain, you knew this when going in.
Business models change, I wouldn't trust any 3rd LD to build on for the long term.

Then they didn't do their homework. Why invest in subdomains that never sell anyway ?

The only thing that surprises me is that they didn't pull the plug earlier.

Most (double) extentions will REMAIN however .
Anyhow : for the moment it's already so that no new registrations (I tried some)
are possible for the moment on these 8 extentions.

I've got an answer from Centralnic to my question.

BEGIN QUOTE
Hello,
Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying to you.
It is correct that, unfortunately, some domain extensions are being sunsetted on April 30th 2017. This is happening because some of our clients wished to discontinue service on their SLD extensions as they were not successfully received by their markets. We decided it was better to offer all very low volume SLD registry clients a one-off opportunity to discontinue service, so we could sunset them all at once and give the market certainty as to which SLDs were being discontinued and which were continuing.
I appreciate that this is going to have a negative impact on you, but sadly the decision is out of our hands and there is nothing that we can do to prevent this.
We do have a compensation scheme in place to try and minimise the negative impact on you; if you can give me the details of the affected extensions that you have I can get back to you with details of the compensation available.
I understand that this is not necessarily the news you wanted to hear, but I hope it goes some way to explain the reasoning behind the decision. The article you refer to was written from a negative point of view and contained a lot of false information, so I hope now that I have clarified the situation it helps you to understand better.
Warm regards,
Channel Development Executive
END QUOTE (I left the name from the person away)

(The word "sunsetted", means "cancel these extentions" and the existing domains on these extentions).
