Localhost?

How do i get this on my computer so i can view php/mysql scripts without actually uploading to a site? i want to start programing and i think i should do this first (dont have time to go to php.net and whatever, have to go right now and want to have some posts when i get back)

get a program called easyphp, it installs apache, php, mysql, u put the php files into www in the root folder....enjoy

I've not messed with easy php....but I use Xampp, and it is quite nice.

You could. But too much hassle. And would be very confusing to a beginner. Why not just download a package that has everything already, and a self installer? :gl:

Indeed much easier , to do some real testing get a linux server setup at your house, as there are a few differences between running php on windows and on linux, nothing most people will ever notice, but still a few quirks can be seen.

I use easyphp.org's program, plus i have a linux system that i use mostly (i use this for the shell commands actually lol like whois ping trace ect...)

I honestly HATE window's servers. They are unsecure imo, only good for a newbie to web development, and the server is restricted only to the localhost.

i use Apache Web Server X1, cant remember the site but if you google it you'll find it, but you have to install PHP yourself, very food webserver though.

if you use windows there is a newer package caled PortableWebAp which can be downloaded from PortableWebAp.com.

There is a version that makes no changes to your pc and is intended for USB drives or media like that.

I would suggest using a preconfigured stack instead of manually installing. Especially on Windows.

I used to use Uniform Server, but now I am trying out XAMPP. SourceLabs and SpikeSource are two other options. I have pasted some info from our internal wiki below:
