Just wondering about the legality of purchasing a domain and simply pointing it to somebody elses website, no frames or anything. For example buy eayb.com and point it to ebay.com.

If you don't understand what I mean I will try to clarify.

Why would you do that for what reason?

Seems silly to me but I think it's legal! They will thank you in my opinion!

Well in the scenario i'm looking at, the service is very popular but doesn't use a top level domain so i'd be looking at making the domain I purchase a popular way of reaching the site and work from that. Hope that makes sense.

Is your play to try to show them the traffic and say "Buy my domain?" I don't see that as a smart choice example circa 1997 someone could have said the name ebay sucks I own auction.com I have been directing at EBAY for you now please buy the name. if the company is building a brand maybe they like their name.

Well it would not be a high quality domain such as that. It'd be mainly to try and get people going through the domain name, and people posting links to the site, through the domain I own, building up a good number of linkbacks and traffic flowing through the domain and then perhaps sell.

Presumably it's illegal to go to a site in a frame with ads in another frame or such.
