Hello

I would have pasted the thing here but then it would have been considered as copy content so giving you the link of my blog.

Some Plugins I have used

This is for wordpress as your blog is also based on wordpress.

One more thing I saw is that the title tag is missing on your blog and meta tags too.

Last but not least I would say make posts on regular basis. If you think you have 3 posts to make and 2 are somewhat related to industry news and will only work if posted at that time then post them first. And just leave the tips and tricks posts as draft so that you can publish it later on ;) Simply telling that you can just disperse them along with the timeline :)

Thanks.

it's a good start.

you should customize it more using some of the plugins nick has suggested, and you can find more here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/. you can also customize by playing around with the themes and stylesheets.

the current template isn't very eye-catching, but it's a good one if you are trying to monetize through adsense, which seems to be what you're doing. throw in some pictures and widgets (plugins).

with blogs especially, content is very important. try to make regular postings and spread them as evenly as possible, so that your readers know more or less when to expect the next update.

Thank you very much Nick :) I`ll have to learn how to do those things :) Surely my aim is to post on regular basis, probably every day.

Thanks Shockie,

I was told in another thread here on NP that I should be careful with plugins because some are potentially unsafe and may minate database security.

Regarding the template: yes I am using one to get some revenue but certainly I am going to offer good content mainly written by me. I just started so I have still to understand how the blog works and the RSS thing that I have no idea how to use it.

Regarding adding pictures, I tried today but I got an error:

Unable to create directory /home/lorenzo1/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2008/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?
Back to Image Uploading

Thanks

I think you should CHMOD that directory to 777 and it will solve the error problem.

Thanks, I`ll try to do that :)

I noticed that if I use the wordpress installed on the wordpress.com site , in the the "my profile" section, there is the option to upload your picture, why in this one there is not.

Is there any way to add it?

Thanks

cool :)

Another question, sorry Nick if I`m bombarding you :)

How do I make sure that all the content does not go lost if the server crashes? The server broke just the day before I started it......and this made me think that I should do some backup every day but that`s annonying, especially since I don`t even know ho to do a backup :'(

Nullmind told me there should be another plugin to do that but again check what richrf wrote here:

http://www.namepros.com/411936-what-s-better-forum-or-blog-2.html

A word of caution about plugins. Many make use of the database (the Adsense doesn't) and create security holes. My database was deleted within two weeks because of one of the plugins. In regards to Adsense plugins, they sometimes to not work well with other popular plugins (most plugins are not well tested) and can cause havoc. If things start going wrong with your blog, turn off all plugins (except Akismet) and start adding them one by one until you find the offending one. Because I like to switch templates now and then, I only use the most popular plugins such as Akismet, Bad Behavior, etc. I ran into too many problems with the others.

Rich

Thank you!

There are auto backup plugins.

But I think you can just take backups from the hosting control panel by going to "Backups" option if you are on cpanel.

The files won't need a backup every now and then [Yes you should backup them if you have uploaded some images in blog posts or attachments since last backup]

But you can surely take the backup of the databases from time to time.

If you know how to set a cron job then you can set the cron job to take the backups and send it to you in email or just make a backup copy of it on another server :)

ehhhh Nick no, I don`t even understand what you`re talking about :'(

It`s actually Nullmind`s host so it`s him doing the work with the hosting company which had serious problems this week.

But even if I save the attachments, then what about all the blog posts?

Cheers

This above thing will also allow you to get the database backup. There will be link in there with the name of your blog's database. You can download that and it will take care of all your posts :)

I am writing this by assuming that your server has cpanel. If it has some other control panel the procedure might be slight different.

Thanks.

I see thanks, yes I think it has cpanel anyway Nullmind should read this thread soon :)

So basically I should just backup at least once a week if I write everyday....how annoying , they should backup automatically the hosting companies for us :)

The page is empty, so what I should fill and what is the puppose of the tags and meta tags, words that I can`t translate in italian so I have no idea of their meaning ?

A bit disappointing: 202 visitors and only 1 click ($0.16)

Yahoo Spider has just arrived but I`m not sure if I`m indexed now.

It's because your target audience (domainer, webmaster, etc.) were already aware of adsense and they are most likely not to click it.

whatever you decide to blog about, make sure it's something you're interested in.

for a static website you can just bite the bullet for a couple of weeks and come up with some blocks of content, whereas a blog requires regular posts on the subject matter (at least once per week). so if you aren't interested in your blog's category, you will stop writing and the blog will die. :(

thanks for your reply, but based on this thread:

http://www.namepros.com/parking-and-traffic-monetization/411936-what-s-better-forum-or-blog.html?

it was advised to choose a Blog......I also stated that was not for a domain project and it`s true because that project has not yet started since it`s more complex , but in the mean time I wanted to try one so I decided to try the best think I like and I know: domaining :)

Hi Lorenzo - in my experience blogging can be very frustrating - very hard to get visitors and when they come along they generally don't click on the ads ! Especially in a sector like domaining - one reason is that Google can be a bit of a pain regarding clicks on Adsense ads. and some people (such as me) become a bit paranoid, so I generally don't click on other people's Adsense ads.

The recognized blogging 'guru' is Darren Rowse who runs www.problogger.net - where you will find a whole load of tips and advice about improving your blog, getting more visitors etc... - but it's still harder than it looks ! Johnchow.com is also an interesting read sometimes - he says himself that he makes money by telling people how much money he makes! He's very good at self-promotion !
If you want to read a wonderful post (by me) about how much money bloggers make havea look here - http://www.netmonetization.com/2007/07/blogger-revenue-and-alexa-rankings-are.html

I've just been over to your blog and can't leave a comment unless I log in which is a bit of a pain, and it seems you also need a Wordpress account to log in. IMHO you need to make it easy for people to leave comments, so as to create some interaction, although you also need to be able to scan them and dump any spam comments.

Thanks a lot for your precious comment :)

I set up the way comments are......I thought: how am I going to filter the silly posts? so I did that, at the end of the day I doubt that comments help a blog.....do they?

Thanks

rep for you :)

Thanks for the rep. -

According to the 'professional bloggers' i.e. those that make thousands of dollars a month from blogging (mainly from the ads. and affiliate programs) comments are essential as they create a relationship with your readers - if you are intending making money from blogs the best place to start is problogger.net - another good blog with lots of technical information about blog layout and SEO is courtneytuttle.com - good luck !
