Earlier domains with keywords gets benefits in SEO (search engine optimization). I don't know how it looks at the moment. If you have good domain with keywords you will have probably natural traffic with straight entries in web browsers.

Cognitive behavior of the average internet user.

if one searches " cool craft ideas " in google, they are most likely to see and view a site with domains such as coolcrafts com or coolcraftideas com or craftideas com etc..

also short memorable words will hold ease of memory for users to revisit in the future.

comes down to status also, hence the .com popularity.

Why expect anyone to know what your brand means. If you have the generic exact match you have a major advantage.

Right now if you pick any major industry and look up the best two word keywords for that industry you will see they are for sale. Rarely do you have companies use them because many refuse to spend what is needed on those domains.

If you actually do research you will see that if you own a keyword domain and you really optimize the site itself and its backlinks, it will beat away everyone else.

For example, if you search google for a the highly competitive keyword "magic tricks" you will see the first result (beating sites like Amazon, Ebay and known major magic suppliers) is magictricks .com (I have nothing to do with that site). That site is a real site, not a few seo pages, and has a real backlink profile (not nonsense purchased for 5 dollars). These things matter because some people think that when they see a keyword domain not show up that has a few pages with articles that were purchased for 7 cents, that keyword domains dont work.

If someone is very serious about a niche and has the money, they will buy the best possible keyword domain for that niche and invest serious time and money to build the site out in a way that it will get natural backlinks (this only happens if the site offers some value, spun articles even if you have a million of them will mean nothing).

You do not have to be an expert to know that a search engine will absolutely take into account the domain itself within their algorithm. What role it will play we could only guess, but without a doubt it plays some role.

There are obvious other benefits to keyword domains too (not including some typin traffic). Since your domain is descriptive and an exact match people remember it better. When they want to recommend it they don't have go look up anything, they just remember it. Also, psychologically its instantly trustable for that niche.

You also end up being a choice recommendation for people that are writing articles about a niche. Again, it brings a lot of trust with an exact match name.

In these days companies buy brandables because its way cheaper than keyword domains. What they have to end up spending on marketing to tell people that magickoocaca.com is a place to buy magic tricks and the money investment in seo, is a lot higher than if they just purchased the best keyword domain (they will still need to do marketing and serious seo but it will be easier).

What's going to end up happening eventually is some companies now are buying keyword domains in other extensions and building a brand around it. Those that end up doing well will want to upgrade to the dot com and will have to pay a serious price to do so. This will end up causing the dotcom keyword domains to rise in valuations quickly and probably most will be above 7 figures.

For now smart domain investors compete heavily when a real keyword domain hits the market (very rare).

Great way to attack market is to buy the search term. They still spend to be found.
