I find this very odd coming from a big name company like Moniker.
I am not pissed off about the money but I simply feel its not the right thing to do.

I tried to check some very generic names on moniker ,and most of them were ofcourse taken except 1 which was a .asia name.
I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw that it was still available.

So i typed in as quickly as I could , afraid of "snooze and lose".

Moniker let me add the domain to the cart and pay for it.
My Paypal account got deducted.
But immediately I got a email saying something like this

"Thank you for your order!

This is your Order Confirmation. Please check your order as some services may have failed to be acquired.

....
Error code: 2306 - Parameter value policy error
"
Now what was that supposed to mean.
Anyway bottomline is that the registration failed.

So i checked further on .asia site and there it said that the name is reserved
Even Godaddy correctly said that the name is taken

Funny part is Moniker has listed this name as well as many other .asia names which are reserved and they let you add to cart and pay for them.
and then for every failed transaction they charge 0.60 dollars as handling fee , and they dont return the other 15 dollars back to paypal.

ok 0.60 dollars is a small amount and not something to lose sleep over but
Do you think it is correct on their part to deduct that amount when clearly it is their mistake to list all those reserved names.

Imagine a small reseller starts a website and lists many premium names and then deducts money from every domainer who tries to register these names.Easy way to make some cash right ? Just a scenario

I am yet to hear from Moniker through their ticket support system........

Well..I agree it's not optimal but I know that .asia has been a mess for the most part. Sadly it appears Moniker is having issues as well. Thanks for letting us know this though. It might prevent others from losing 60 cents or more too.

you might want to try this:

If your complaint concerns financial transaction issues

It is not within ICANN's mission to address any customer-service related matters that fall outside of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) e.g. over billing, multiple billing, transfer fees or redemption grace period fees. Complaints about a registrar's performance that can not be resolved with a registrar may be addressed by private-sector agencies involved in addressing customer complaints (i.e. The Better Business Bureau at http://www.bbb.org/; The International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network http://www.icpen.org/). If you believe your complaint concerns an illegal matter contact the appropriate law enforcement agency (which will vary depending on jurisdiction) or you may consult an attorney for legal advice.

Moniker makes it clear that refunds will only be credited to your prepaid funds account.
So yeah, a faulty .asia availabilty checker is kind of an issue if you pay by PayPal and you're paying the handling fees.

It's not much when you talk about one domain, but i can imagine it can add up if you're on a roll registering domains...

But...

EuroDNS takes it a lot further and completely scams their customers!
Yeah, i sued the scam word, because that is exactly what they're doing.

Showing a domain is available and then you find out that it's actually not.
They're baiting you into completing the registration with them and they charge you a non refundable fee. I'm not sure what they called it anymore, but there was a fee that could not be refunded if an .asia domain would not be awarded to you.

Then they claimed the other part of your payment for an asia domain will be refunded.

And when you do want to receive a refund you get this thrown back at you:

Request a refund of 13.80 โ‚ฌ
Estimated fees 10.00 โ‚ฌ

Their .asia domain selling practices is based on deception and trickery.

Scamming their customers as much as they can.

I thought they where a decent company, but they're simply criminals in my book.

Avoid them like the plague is my advice.
