smtp.net

25 people so far have back ordered it at snap and a program I use states its 13 years old (created in 1995). Archive.com doesnt have all years listed which usually means it dropped I thought. Any thoughts to how much this LLLL.net will go for? Estibot shows huge stats for Alexa but it was redirecting to ACI.net and shows their rank. Are people not doing their homework or are people liking the age? Thoughts?

(I have not bid on it)

SMTP is a pretty huge term in email. I would consider this more the equivalent of a generic word than an LLLL.net.

Was first regged 26-apr-1995, whereas the .com is younger (13-jan-1996). This was common back then, as ISP's and internet-related companies used ".net" for its initially-intended purposes (internet infrastructure) - like one of mine (nameservice.net) is older than its .com. As to SMTP.net, the age is almost a given for this term (SMTP) - I'm actually shocked its not older, considering it became common in the 80's. As Reece stated, its the term/meaning that has folks jumping on it. Just because a domain is old doesn't increase its value, generally - It can help, but age alone means little. You can bet the Estibot evaluation ($2800) on this is a good bit below what it will go for in the end :imho:

There are 2 counters for the "age" for a domain
- The day it was registered
- The day it was indexed
Now if these days are close the age factor is more than little

I generally like old domains
I saw it helped my SEO enough compared with new names
In fact two times for two different people put down sites with equally friendly seo content

I took recently an old name (registered in 1993) and i see an increased interest in sedo

I personally think it'll go for $10k. Probably to someone with serious development plans for it.

no-one would drop after all that time by mistake, it's been lovingly renewed for 13 years.
could be quite a few things, owned by a company, then company went under or took over and new company didn't have old admin email or didn't value
owner could have died/ill annything

either way, glad it kept it's age, always tragic when a 'gilf' drops and loses age D-:

Is it true that old domains get more google results?

You aren't too bright are you? If you are planning on bidding on this domain you just upped the competition needlessly.

edit, old thread. so how much did it go for?

Well someone probably sent an email to the whois to get the owner to sell, and he got a headups and renewed.. this happens to me all the time with this person named Chicagoguy at afternic, when I go after high end domains and win them, and then add them to afternic, there is a bid waiting from "Chicagoguy".

SMTP = Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.

Still being used heavily.. So, it should be a great name for development. Though, it will be hard to monetize/use this name. JMHO..

It would have easily sold for 4 -5k +, but not sure beyond that..
