Hey guys,
So I'm broke, a college student, and need to pay off my credit card at the end of the month. Fun place to be when your thinking about Christmas, your sister's wedding in the spring, paying off student loans, and when your thinking about pursuing a girl. :tri:

Someone fell on my laptop today and broke the screen. It's a Inspiron 2200. I've got a dead Inspiron 600m laptop laying around. If Dell decides that they won't replace the motherboard on that 600m (which needs to happen, because that's definitely the problem, and they have already replaced it 2-3 times before), then the laptop is toast. I'm going to sell it for parts.

BUT.... I'm wondering if an Inspiron 600m LCD would fit and work with a 2200 chassis. They are both the same screen size, and I don't see why not.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
David

Hey David, sorry to hear that..but things happen..:)

Well, why not just hook up an external monitor until you have the money?(and for your sisters wedding you could give her all the broken computer parts you have, lol)

It is more than unlikely that the screen connector from both laptops are the same(even you could give it a try)...

Another question, who is the fool who fell on your laptop(and i don't wanna imagine HOW) :)

Maybe his insurance can take care of it??

Cheers

Hey Frank,
LOL @ your comments. My sister is the MOST technical illiterate person I know when it comes to computers. She would LOVE that gift. Hah. Actually, I'm doing a website for her and her fiancee as PART of my wedding present.

I actually am going to use an external monitor. I already have one lined up and am going to get that baby connected within the hour!

I'm not quite sure how the guy fell on the laptop. He's my roommate. At least he offered to buy a new one or help out in some way. I told him buying a new LCD panel would cost more than the computer's worth. So I think he'll still be willing to pitch in a few bucks, but it's not the end of the world. As you said, things happen.

I just finished talking to Dell, and they are not going to replace that motherboard on the 600m, unfortunately. After chatting with them, I called them, and they still said "no."

So, I'm going to go ahead and take the screen off of the one and try to put it onto the other. I think your right that the connectors are going to be the same size. I might even be able to put the 2200 bezel onto the 600m panel. That would be nice! (The bezel still works, and doesn't have any obvious cracks, except a slight "abrasion" on one of the edges. No big deal.

Oh, I can't wait till I can start earning some money and buy myself a new computer!

Thanks Frank. I appreciate it!

Well, I'm officially highly excited. I'm currently on my laptop right now, with the same LCD bezel, screen cover, everything, but with a different screen. I just finished taking the screen off of the old 600m, and putting it onto this one... First time I've done that ... and it works perfectly!

I even cleaned out my laptop keyboard a little while it was open. :)
