Hey folks

I usually don't post here everytime I get an inquiry/offer but this one kinda hit home.

Not a big offer by any means but I received a message from an artist here in Canada who creates very popular artwork and is showcased provincially and well known. They own the .ca version of my .com "West coast wild" which IMO is a very generic name that has many possible applications. The artist states that while they were dealing with health issues they let their .com domain expire which I picked up over a year ago in an expiring auction on dynadot.

Their paintings sell upwards of $xx,xxx but they live a stones throw away from my town. I have heard of them and have also seen their work displayed at many different events.

They offered $200 for the name and claim they saw it for sale last year for $150 (not true). I have had it listed for sale since acquiring it and am looking for mid $x,xxx.

I really like their art and would consider a trade (art+ cash) to get them back their name. I'm dealing with them now and will keep everyone updated.

What are your thoughts on the name and its value?

I hope you get what you want. It's important that they appear to be able to afford a 4-digit price. They may be your best buyer for this domain.

On the flip side, their .ca is a redirect and their website shows a 2012 date, which means they don't care too much. If they actually owned the domain in the past, this is also somehting to worry about, because usually people don't want to pay too much for something they *could* have for free (if they hadn't blundered by dropping it, that is).

Diverse, seek the artwork, let us know how it pans out

There is a screenshot from 2010 showing they did actually own the name so at least you know that much. It also shows that the name was priced at $269. This was possibly why she mentioned the lower price and was probably before you owned it. I see it listed at Afternic for $4,999. Even though her paintings are worth good money doesn't mean that they'll pay good money for the domain. I don't think they care much about the name in my honest opinion. An artist is known by their personal name and she has the dotcom of that which is all she needs. I think she only wants the WestCoastWild. com name because she owned it in the past. It would be great if you can get X,XXX out of her but I don't see it happening honestly. She has what she needs and this is just a bonus but not crucial to her. She would probably send you a simple painting but probably not much cash. IMO

Jeepers, that's a tough one mate.

IMO it would be difficult to make a call off the bat if I was in your shoes. I mean I would be torn between the two possibilities. One being, if they really are unable to afford the domain and they did in fact have health issues and the other being are they simply trying to score the domain for dirt cheap.

I guess if they are in your area not far from you. Might not be a bad idea to go meet with them and see what sort of vibe you get. Then take it from there...

I like the name and it fits with the extension. As far as whatever the case maybe; health issues or all kinds of issues that's fine. The name itself is vintage and has some values already. Just like their paintings. Value of the name, it's your call. This because you are the owner now.

You've sold lot's of domains, you know the value but IMO this one isn't worth mid X,XXX. I'd take low X,XXX if possible, maybe mid XXX and a painting signed that says 1 of 1. Just in case they become famous some day, you will have a one of a kind painting... :)

I consider a fitting domain name as a piece of art
I also consider paintings as a piece of art
sounds like a fair trade imo

on top of that you show that you respect their work which is a compliment for a true artist

First, I would take out the whole personal tie to this domain and its history, medical issues, etc.. If the story is true it is very unfortunate, but this is why domain have an expiration, and cannot be purchased permanently.

I would sell for a very realistic $2500
