does anybody think that .info addresses will ever kick off or is it too hard to tell? do any of them go for that high or are they just crappy. in other words, are they worth buying?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

.info's have gone to $xxxx sales. I personally paid mid $xxx for one and would pay $xxxx for a good name

It really depends on the name itself and if it fits the extension well.

It's already kicked off. The Internet is all about information. I love .info names. Fits a lot of stuff.

I have to agree with the answers so far. Who says it hasn't. I believe I see as many .info sales as I do .net and .org....No, it will probably never beat .com, but It's as versatile as .net and probably more useful than .org in most cases.

The internet is quickly becoming the place to find information. If you ever want to know what something is or even how to perform certain tasks, the internet is the place to do it - and quickly at that.

The .info extension is perfect for the internet because the extension sets up the website to contain information on the subject.

I believe there has been a relative kickoff of the extension with some of the more recent sales and I think it will continue to grow. I don't forsee it ever overtaking .com for any reason but it will remain strong nonetheless.

I love em. Will never top .com but imo, will be in the running for a top spot with other extentions.

I may have to hold on to some of mine for a while before they get their worth but am willing to take this gamble and I have choose very carefully. Not all words fit the .info :hehe:

I think the .info's will be very popular in the near future. They are perfect for many types of sites.

.info was having a slow start but seems to rise in popularity. It is a TLD which should not be underestimated.

.Info is certainly a good extension if you're developing a site that fits the .tld, and I expect it to increase in value as time passes. What would really help would be a large advertising campaign (preferably TV, or national press) for a .info site, which would very quickly boost public awareness of the extension. As far as I know, that hasn't happened yet.

What are the highest profile .infos anyway?

.info are second to .com in my opinion. I think net is all about information so if u are making a site only for giving info then better use .info than .com

Its a nice extensions but has limited commercial worth. I guess the most infos can sell for is about a $1000, anything more than that would be surprising! (for me atleast)

And what else can you buy for $7 and resell for $1000? Pretty good return if you ask me.

BTW, there are quite a few selling for more than $1,000 if you check out dnjournal. However, the average is still probably in the $100 range. Still not bad for a $7 investment.

I pretty much agree. The three main uses for the internet in my opinion are:

Commerce
Networking
Information

commerce is without a doubt the highest income producer most valued domain .com. Networking can be internet, forums, cellular, phone, or other communications that work well with .net. Information is the backbone of the internet, with most every site no matter what type serving it up. Typically the perfect use of .info would be dissemination of information, with advertising supporting the costs. I try to select .info names that will be good for disseminationg information that could be supported by advertising.

As for sales, I think there are two ways to sell on the internet. One is to actively market and sell a product, which is often done on .com domains. The second is to give information people will seek. After seeking info about a product, need, or situation, you can try to use their attention to your site to sell them something related. This is why generics can work so well with .info.

I had to re-read the Posting date three times to make sure it was 2005 ,not 2004 when this was posted.
Where have you been over the last year ,especially the last 3 months.
.info's have started to get some impressive figures for sales and usage.

$1000 for an .info . That would still be a pretty impressive return on the capital investment. But I am sure most people would be happy to get $100 for a lot of the .com's that are sold. So selling a $1000 .info, and there is literally thousands worth that , would be a good sale.

Myself ,I would never pay $1000 for any Name. Why? . I want to be the one selling it ,
:hehe:
And I would be happy to sell any of my 1200 .info's for an average of $100. Any more would be a bonus.
