Hey everyone,
I’m new here and in need of some suggestions from you enlightened members of this community. Im no web guru by any means, but I’ve built sites in the past using flash, html, and phpnuke. I know a little html and can pretty much always figure out how to get things to work. I’m not one to ask a billion questions, I kinda like to figure out how to fix things on my own. I guess you could call me tinkerer.
With that said…
I’ve finally gotten to the point where I would like to create websites that use some sort of easy to customize CMS (content management system). I know there are tons out there, but customizing the look and different features can be a bit intense. With the dozens of different systems out there I am starting to get a little lost. I have simple needs, but im starting to run around in circles and its starting to look grim.
For example.
I’m working with a couple friends on a review site. Played out idea I know, but it could serve be fun and interesting to the masses. We would like to have a page for each movie we have seen, followed by a page for each reviewers review and a couple pictures that would be unique to each users page. Were also trying to intenerate a search feature and the use of the rollover effect for our buttons. Initially we started using flash for this, but as I got further and further into developing the basic template for how it would work I realized that there would be WAY too much editing needed to add a review for a new movie, and like most things, if its difficult to do, people tend to stray away from it. It would also be a nightmare to just have 1 person add all of the content. It would be nice to use a system that can easily manage this content and keep it organized. Like I said, I’ve used PHPNUKE in the past, but customizing the site template is turning out to be a nightmare and flash just doesn’t seem like its going to work for something this database reliant and need a search function.
I guess what it comes down to is that I would like to have a way to very easily add content, maybe using forms of some sort, and easily customize the look and feel of things without having to Sift through code for hours and hours.
I’m willing to try anything at this point. Any suggestions on a great way to do this would be appreciated to no end. I’m willing to learn what is needed, I just need to be pointed in the right direction.
Thanks for all of you time and I hope to hear from some of you soon.
