Thanks everyone for any feedback that I may receive. I really appreciate it.

I hand regged my first 5 domains and for each I am wondering are they worth nothing? Or do they have the potential to be worth something?

For those that do have potential, what do I do with them?

Do I create landing pages with contact information? Do I try to find end users? Do I park the pages and pick a specific type of auction or listing on a particular site?

I am trying to limit my losses (if my domains end up being a loss) and I have decided to continue to read and read some more before I continue with any more purchases.

Here are the first 5 domains that I hand regged, and the thought processes behind them.

1) roonax.com - I thought that this was a very cool and unique sounding brandable. Somewhat short and it should be pretty easy to spell.

2) bizdynamix.com - Another brandable/company type name. The spelling would fit for a young/tech/modern startup theoretically. I don't know how I feel about this one anymore although I liked it at first. I feel like it may only apply to a very specific idea.

3 & 4) hoopsprogram.com and the plural hoopsprograms.com - I felt like someone who runs a basketball camp or a basketball training site could use them. Although I liked them at first I really don't like them anymore.

5) nycautoclub.com - I saw that someone was asking over 20k for nyccarclub.com. For other similar names I saw people asking north of a few grand. I understand however that this may mean nothing at all. A member on here had told me he would expect around $500 for it.

And that's it for now and perhaps for a while. Not sure for how long but I am at least refraining from making any more (potentially foolish) purchases soon.

Thanks again!

Don't really like any of them but as a 'newbie' I suggest

a. start a make offer page on this site to see if anyone 'likes' your registrations and makes an offer
b. list on sedo and PRAY
c. read all you can about names actually sold or developed and why those names were sold or developed.

In the old days (pre 70% of internet traffic being mobile and pre Google dominance of search engines) you could cheaply create and host speculation domains, today development means MONEY due to many reasons including any project must have an APP and be in the Cloud, although you can do it low grade, you need a lot of technical knowledge to do it right building cloud buckets and the like, and then with Google being the big organic hog of traffic, you need a whole new level of SEO to make a site even get near page one in serps.

So you're late to the game but there's a lot of wide open areas in the 'game' still.

New tld's for natural fits is a churn and burn area of speculation today.

Prefixes in .com's are still open for registrations and maybe are 'drops' meaning a speculator had them for years and started cutting their expenses since registrations and hosting keeps going up.

Also, old monetization models don't work today such as parking and adsense like they used to work.

That all being said, you can still find some gems and churn them or if you get the skill set you need, you might venture into developing for whatever you think makes sense, be it traffic and or adsense or whatever.

You need to be a SMO guru today (Social Media Optimization) or even a 'growth hacker' to get traction and then SEO is not what old 'experts' continue to think it is, SEO and SEM now revolve around one thing SPEED and that means page open times and that means if you can't get a page open time under 1 second you get penalties in both seo and sem (ppc).

GOOD LUCK and WELCOME

I think you are putting the cart before the horse.
It's not: register a domain, then figure out how you're going to sell it.
It is: do research first and ask yourself why somebody would want to buy from you, rather than fall back to some available domain.

5) nycautoclub.com - I saw that someone was asking over 20k for nyccarclub.com. For other similar names I saw people asking north of a few grand.
People are asking insane amounts of money for domains that nobody wants, thus their asking prices are not a valid benchmark at all. It would be better to analyze reported sales instead, so you understand which types of domains are in demand.

My advice would be to buy only domains that you could use, for which you have at least a vision. Assume they are not going to sell, sales are the exception and not the norm.

Now, nycautoclub is not 'bad' but:
  • the pool of potential end users is tiny (fewer chances to make a sale)
  • club probably means not for profit, so a club could register the .org or some variation. All extensions are available.
If you find a domain name available, ask yourself why nobody picked it for $10.

I like roonax.com as a brandable. New to domaining myself but learning quickly. Learn all you can. Buy smart. Also consider spending what you would on 5, 10, or even 20 hand reg domains on 1 good one on the aftermarket.

roonax is a good brandable, worth renewing until it sells. $999-$1500

Like 1 and 3. IMO nice hand reg finds with which to break into the multi-faceted domain universe.

Might suggest parking and optimizing all 5 at Sedo, let them sit in the marketplace while you read and read more about domain ideas here on NamePros!

Watch their stats and make educated plans for the names.

Then go forward with whatever route is best suited for your skills and interests.
