Dear fellow NPers.

I got contacted by PM by forum member @Topvalue offering some 4L.com names at $300 each.

There were couple western premiums among them that could easily sell for $500+.

The seller asks for paypal pay only. I checked his forum reviews and his just 2, both negative.

So I tell him I will buy 2 names, but will pay escrow. He says no, only paypal. I wrote him back that I will pay $50 extra per name for using escrow, plus all fees on me. He says, thanks but no as it is "partnership policy". I checked the names' whois, they are under "privacy". So I wrote an email to the owner asking if he is "topvalue" from NP and and is in fact offering it for sale for $300?

Here is his short answer:

"no not me".

So, a) I'd ask forum moderators to ban this user. @Eric Lyon do you require screen shots? b) always remember, if something is too good to be true, it probably is and don't fall for it.

I haven't replied since his last PM that it is their policy to leave $100 (for two names) extra money on table and receiving an email from the owner that it was not him.

I suspect I am not the only one who got the "lucky" offer, so decided to open the thread.

Yikes man, good thing you were cautious.

Thanks for taking the time to start this thread, Im guessing if he offered it to you then there are probably a few other members who have been approached as well.

Hopefully with screenshots of the conversation he gets the boot from forum mods.

Lots of scammer on NP lately.

I won an auction a few weeks ago. Paid on PayPal and the member disappeared right after. I lost my money.

I've discussed with a few other NP members that also lost money to the same person in the same week.

Beware new member trying to sell domains.

Did you try to dispute or was it "gift"?

Ask for domain to be sent before payment. With his bad reviews, he should agree to that kind of term.

But I already checked with the owner and the owner said it is not him selling the name on NP.

Many people don't realize you can still contact the owner of a name under privacy, there is an email there that will forward to his real email.

No it was not gift. He sent me an invoice on PP and I paid.

I opened a dispute, it has now escalated to a claim. He has until April 10th to reply .. this whole process is so long. I am pretty sure it will be too late and the money will be gone.

If you opened a dispute withing Paypals dispute time frame then you should have enough time. What you can do is provide Paypal with as much info as possible. Even if it's too much info, I have found that doing this has always helped me win any dispute I raised with a Paypal transaction. Screen shots of the conversation including the screenshot of where he gives u his paypal ID. Then also attach emails from your registrar confirming the transfer of the domain. The dates on the emails should correspond with the time frames of the screenshots. Mention to Paypal to take note of the time frames as well.

As a heads-up - most of those domains in that list Recon posted (via the screenshot) were just sold on NameJet and have not even closed yet. Would seem strange to see them offered for sale on here so quickly like that - but perhaps I am missing something or am just uninformed.

Either way, I would not want to see anyone defrauded, so I thought it was worth mentioning - so that everyone could do their proper due diligence. Take care!

Thanks for that info. Could be that the fraudster is counting on it, hoping that while the name is between the owners, he has more chances to trick people into buying air.

Hi guys,

Just to let you know i had the same "issue" today with the same NP member.

He contacted me via PM to offer me some 3L.net chips, as i am a big holder of those names. To start he offered 3 chips at USD2600 each, i asked a better price, he lowered to USD2300 straight away....hmmmm...ok i take the 3 via Escrow and i pay fees.
Same response: only via Paypal and payment first. After a quick investigation, i noticed that they were all under privacy and all been bought at Namejet 2 days ago for USD2900+.
I confronted the guy about those facts....obviously no response.
You know the old saying guys,,,,if it is too good to be true....
