The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) today announced the release of updated industry metrics, accessible via the ICANN Open Data platform, as part of its Domain Name Marketplace Indicators initiative.
The initiative presents statistics related to generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) with the aim of fostering greater transparency for reputable information on the evolution of the domain name marketplace.
ICANN has continued to expand the coverage of indicators shortlisted as part of the initiative. With a total of 29 metrics now published, this release features the following three new metrics:

- gTLD domain name renewals as a ratio of total new registrations, which can portray how demand in broad gTLD domain name categories sustain across multiple years;
- Percentage of annual gTLD domain namespace attrition, which can quantify decisions by registrants to register but not renew domain names; and
- Percentage of distinct registrar entities with registrations by broad gTLD categories, which can illustrate choices of registrars being made by registrants at the gTLD category level.
