I regged the .com of a soon to-be-developed .net

The .net is the name of a new r&b singer - currently unsigned. 13k friends on myspace and 150k views.

FYI the .net is being developed so there's not much going on with it right now, although it is being promoted on her myspace site. Her music is actually quite good and she's not too bad herself! :p

Anyone want to share some experiences of regging .coms of developed .nets?

If it's regged can you tell us what it is?

I own a .net of a developed and highly active .org. I get a lot of it's traffic. I'm pretty sure it's not as much as the .com, but it's a good amount. If I were you I would just enjoy the revenue from it.

Sure. It's BridgetteAngelique.

.net on the end for her site or myspace.com/ in front for her myspace.

Seen quite a few other sites like such have the .net as the main site, ie; mrcheeks.net.

Why they choose .net, I don't know.

I am quite sure you will get traffic from those waiting for the stupid flash crap to load.
I sat for 45 seconds and it still was loading. Stupid -- I would never return. This with a connection that was just logged a download speed of 1.48Mbps at testmy.net.

Turn the .com into a nice quick loading fan site and count your $$$ if she hits big.

I guess that singers like her don't really know anything about domains and maybe she thought net is like "internet" and com is "commercial" so they went with .net. Usually I see people going with .org instead of .com, but .net instead of .com is pretty unusual.

Goodluck!

I see no problem with doing it, as long as you develop the .com into a fansite.
You can even get a free template from somewhere which is fast loading, slap some information on there and that will;

Firstly, keep the artists' record company etc. etc. happy
and secondly, should bring in a reasonable amount of income if you insert ad banners into the site.

However, i've found you need to be careful with what sites the ads bring up (eg. inappropriate ads would be frowned upon as the artist would not what to be tarnished unfairly just because you have inappropriate ads on your site.

Hope that helps you out, any further questions, feel free to ask them and I'll check back on this thread ASAP.

Well there are obviously issues here. It is going to come down to whether you have registered or used the name in bad faith.

You can expect to get a fair amount of traffic if you have the com of a developed net. The amount of traffic will depend on the net. How popular it is, how much typein traffic it gets, etc. The revenue will depend on your parking page.

If they go thorugh the domain dispute process they will win, since you registered it in "bad faith"

Thanks everyone! :)

I didn't exactly register in bad faith though, it was available and if I didn't get it someone else would. Anyways, I like her music so I devved a mini fansite this afternoon.

I haven't decided whether or not to have ads yet, maybe I will, maybe I won't...
I'll see what the traffic is like first.

You could also be a nice guy and give her the domain :)

The loading is annoying. And after 2 min waiting when I entered, there's only a "coming soon" page. I doubt the site will grow big with this developing skills.

A little mean... but it's no differen't than stealing off a big corporation. I guess that the .com you own probably isn't worth the registration fee anyway.
