Hi guys!

I'm currently doing a project along with a fellow namepros member and a couple other people who didn't know anything about the domain name industry before this. We're really thinking of this project can shed some really positive light on domain names and we're trying to do something amazing, that no one else has done for the presentation which is Wednesday.

Now to our conundrum: our project consists of a business plan, which we have to present to potential investors. We came up with a last-minute idea, which consists of getting a legitimate e-mail from a well-known domain name investor, saying something along the lines of "I fully support this team's idea and would personally invest money into it."

The problem is we don't know any big-name domain name traders. So if anyone who does could do us an enormous favour and get them to send me an e-mail along those lines, I know that it might sound kind of suspicious but I guarantee we are not actually using it for any real life idea, it would entirely and 100% stay in the classroom, and they could make it really generic as well if it makes them feel safer.

Anyways, I know it's a long shot but if anyone does have that sort of contact, our group would appreciate it so incredibly much. You can just PM me for my email address.

Thanks guys!

Well... For starters, pretty much everyone here is a potential investor :D

Better than getting an email from a pro-domainer (who I'm 99% sure your prof has never heard of and definitely would have no clue about how to verify whether [email protected] was this pro domainer's email or an elaborate attempt at demonstrating real investor interest), why not ask who supports here and then print out the thread for your prof with 10+ people supporting your idea? That'd probably look more convincing to your prof.

We're more likely to invest in your idea than some guy who wipes his bottom with $100 bills. Kind of like how Steven A. Cohen isn't likely to invest in your startup no matter how great your idea is -- he just doesn't need to.

Us smaller guys with xx,xxx-xxx,xxx are much more likely to send xx,xxx your way for a chance at a few hundred g's to a few mill (on your idea) than someone sitting on hundreds of millions or billions. Time is money and someone making more in a day than your idea will likely make in a year just won't be interested.

While I completely understand where you're coming from, we just feel that explaining to the prof that we did get an email from a well-known domainer will be more impressive, in showing we made the effort to get the connection.

We don't ever actually have any intention of taking this idea anywhere, so we're not seriously looking for investors, just an email from a big name domainer saying they think our idea is good.

Just a piece of advice.

Big domains tend focus on the numbers, with the names being somewhat secondary. Remember that for your business plan.

I dont know of any big name investors......But i also dont understand the project. Could you use something like an email from a known company like sedo or namedrive?

Send RJ a PM
he's big :)

Also try on DNF. Send Adam a PM (though he would be too busy). There are some other big domain investors both here and at DNF. It always helps if you've been around here longer. Even better if you've traded with some big investors.

Yup. That would make an impression. "Email from RJ - owner of Namepros, the largest online domainer community with 80,000 members."

I am a little disturbed.

I know that this is not a real project, but it seems you want an endorsement without the "famous domain investor" really being interested or thinking it was a great idea. You have not described the project here, and no where do I hear that you will describe it to the investor or that you want his honest feedback - just a blind endorsement of it, to impress your professor.

Sorry if i am missing something.
