And while it's a foreign word it's got a ring to it that is very marketable, so I'd like to get the .com, net, org etc all as a package. Do any of the registrars do a 'bulk deal' like this? Thanks in advance

I would suggest that you just buy the .com and think about it again after you have been domaining for more than 6 months (or a year , when first renewals arrive) ...
but , it is up to you , your budget and of course the domain and its possible usage(s) ...
if you decide to reg them you might want to try this ...
google the word domain ... on top there is a GoDaddy offer for $6.95 (+$0.20 ICANN fee) ... click the link ... type the name with .com as a TLD ... click continue ... on the next page , GoDaddy usually offers the .net and .info in a package deal for $9.00 (if purchased with the .com)
although with .infos costing $1.99 at GoDaddy and .nets $8.99 , the discount is only $1.98 (plus the $2.00 discount from the .com) , it still is a rather good price for the lot , if you want to buy more TLDs , which again I repeat I would not suggest (of course you can use the Google link to buy just the .com discounted)
you will probably drop them next year around ... and even if someone regs them and develops them , they will just come to you later to buy the .com ... even if they trademark the name (after you bought the .com) they still cannot take it away from you (and they could be liable to domain hijacking since they should have done their due diligence and check for the .com version before registering a mark) ... but , as I said , it is up to you ...
lastly , you can call GoDaddy and ask them for a bigger lot (more TLDs together) ... they will probably do an even better deal ... which again though I would not suggest ...
Thanks very much for the advice godian. In fact i have just reg's the .com. Paladis.com is the name. I saw it a few weeks ago on a czech periodic table (it's their word for palladium). I've been thinking about it for a while as a nice, pretty universal word that could be branded. It was only today that i saw Palladium.com on sedo for a big sum. I'm not suggesting that this is anything like that but it reminded me!
