$5.95 (Prime) is an unbelievable price for unlimited domains. Even GoPro at $13.95 is excellent with high performance server, dedicated IP and SSL Certificate. What's the catch here? Are they any good? What is their support like?

I would suggest you go to BlueHost.com directly rather than to use the affiliate link in the OP's message.

I don't see who would want these cheapo hosting offers on a domain forum full of savvy computer machine thingee users. For a few bucks more on the same host one could have unlimited everything.

I'm looking for hosting, but I am definitely not clicking the affiliate link.

Or you can use a $5 vps to host unlimited domains, if those $2.5 are out of stock.

Your word is good enough for me @golan. What package were you using? Do they use cPanel? What do they mean by a "high performance server". So much marketing shtick here.

If BlueHost doesn't have a "quality" product. I'm not really interested in subscribing with them.

I don't see any VPS deals on DO either. Just their lowest price of $5. but no $2.50 deals.

What's so special about NameCheap hosting? I would expect them to be average like most registrar hosting deals.

BlueHost is part of Endurance International Group (EIG) - just like HostGator, ASmallOrange, BigRock, Arvixe, iPage, and another 100+ other hosts - everything hosted in the same datacenters with the same level of service and cheap support. Just Google for EIG hosts and you will get the entire list.

Suffice to say, their service sucks and support is pathetic. All these hosts work on the same strategy - grab new customers in thousands by giving huge discounts and paying affiliates (like the OP here) huge commissions, overload their servers, about 50% stay, the rest drop off frustrated. The hosts make money from the 50% who stay and charge them higher amounts on renewal (discounts only apply for the initial term, not on renewals). It's also interesting to note that all EIG hosts pay a flat amount to affiliates for a "new customer" and not for the service/product sold unlike other non-EIG hosts. Just goes on to show that their strategy is what I summarised above.

The other 50% who decided to move on, most unfortunately end up with other EIG hosts thanks to the over enthusiastic "reviewers" who are basically large affiliates of these hosts. And the cycle repeats.

Those who research well and choose the right host, stay happy and sleep better at night :)

@ntjedge -Thanks for your useful information. It doesn't at all sound like it's the kind of hosting I want to get hooked into. Support is pretty important to me. Do you have any recommendations for a cPanel VPS with support you can recommend. It doesn't need to be a big company, just as long as they are responsive (intelligently) :)

Sorry, the $2.5 was provided by vultr and someone else can't remember. They're out of stock frequently.

Thank you! Basically @ntjedge above said it all, i have nothing to add. Bluehost once was very good hosting, but since been bought by EIG - the same cheap crap with close-to-nothing support. Sadly.

Knownhost is best of the best. Amazing support. Fully managed, thus no cheap.
Also can vouch for Greencloudvps, but we're only using them for dev and SEO scripts so can't really say how are they with regular sites.

But probably admins could push this discussion now to another section.

Yep. looks good. I've only ever heard good things about their support. Pity about the 50% off is only for the initial term. But a nice offering.

If you are looking for managed cpanel vps and your primary customer base is US, then have a look at TurnkeyInternet. I am personally using their cloudvps from 4 yrs now and never been happier. They manage their own DC in NY and offer terrific performance. Also you can check out BuyVM, they have got some seriously good vps plans at domainer friendly prices ;). Plus Francisco (owner of BuyVM) and his team are really friendly, offer great support. Plus option of hosting in Luxembourg in addition to Las Vegas.

Another one I could recommend is Skynet Hosting. Good prices, good support including live chat support. Their Indian location hosting has been mostly patchy in my case due to some DC issues but overall worth the price. Their US options are great, works flawlessly.

After moving around a lot trying multiple providers I am currently using these 3 providers. So far I am happy. I have heard good things about Siteground hosting, knownhost and inmotion hosting but never personally tried their services. Maybe others who have experience with them can chip in.

Turnkey Internet didn't provide enough hand-holding for me. I had to cancel them after 1 month.

DO, Vultr, Linode, Ramnode (I have tried Linode, have friends / associates using the rest) are great hosts. But they are more for developers than for normal hosters. What I mean is, you may not find managed services with them. So you basically get a server at a location of your choice, it's your job to set it up - install OS, control panels etc. So if you love to get your hands dirty, they are great. Or you can hire a server admin for the job on Fiverr, freelancer etc.

Among the 4, I think Linode & Ramnode provide managed services for an additional fee. If price is not an issue then you can try them out.

    Which service did you try?

I am using their CloudVps and dedicated plans. And honestly, I don't mind getting my hands dirty in server administration so I never needed their help once the services were provisioned. So far, uptime and performance has been flawless.

Price is always an issue :) I think they'd be too expensive for little me :) I definitely need cPanel included in the price.
