How do you all determine if a buyer is legitimate in his offer?

Also, if a domain is posted on Sedo but a buyer finds it elsewhere, does the sale still have to be made through their service? Or could another escrow service be used?

I'm 1 for 4 in Sedo buyers actually PAYING. I've accepted bids, but only one has actually paid. I eventually just cancel the transactions.

And no, you can have them go through any outside-Sedo paying service you want.

Yeh, If I was you I would just tell them to bid on it at Sedo and then accept the offer.
So that they will actually pay.

I am 3 for 15 on SEDO for the buyer actually sending in the money. On afternic I am 8 for 10 for the buyer sending in the money. I think the 1 dollar fee on Afternic helps weed out dead beat buyers.

I'm 1 for 1 at SEDO.

Just posted the "story" recently if you want to read it?

It was frustrating at times - waiting, not knowing if the deal is good or bad etc.

I even TRIED to cancel it!!!!! And SEDO assured me that the buyer was serious.

3 WEEKS from start to finish!

Anyway, it worked. :gl:

You don't even know who the potential buyer is on Sedo so there's not really a whole lot that you can ascertain.....the only thing I can think of is that if the final sale price is reached after some negotiation (offers-counter offers) including comments from the buyer, then that can provide some insight as to how serious the buyer is.

Outside of Sedo (and other such exchanges) when a buyer initiates an inquiry from domain's Whois contact data using his regular business e-mail (john at CompanyX.com) that to me is always a sign of serious inquiry; it also gives you an opportunity of finding out about the buyer's business/company before responding to the inquiry.
