Can you just email care of Whois Privacy Protection Service, Inc.?

I see domain companies with pricey offer services, does that work better?

There's a domain that would be good for a friend's little store, it's currently used by an Italian gambling blog, which is totally inappropriate for the domain name.

Tried a blog webmaster contact email in PC translated Italian, no reply, I suspect it's parked and unmanaged.

Couldn't pay much, I suppose a $20 is insulting.

If you pay $20 for a domain that cost the owner $10, that's 100% profit, but if the owner is using the domain, that may not be enough to get them to sell.

In general you have to make an offer to get someone's attention and a reply. If the domain has a site or blog, then someone went to the trouble of setting that up and making a small profit on the domain AND site is not going to be worth it to sell to you.

If that's all you want to pay, then it may be hard to get something good if you can find one that is not registered. If you want to tell me what kind of domain you are looking for I can try to find one that is unregistered or that I could sell for what you want to pay.

I agree with nielsencl. When you look up the whois look for creation date as they have paid at least registration fee for each year they have owned the domain and possibly they might have bought the domain from someone else above registration fee. If they took the time to put a site up even if it's a crappy site it still took at least an hour or 2 of time plus any time when they post new posts on it. Then look if it has any backlinks in google, yahoo etc... as those are valuable too. If your total budget is $20 you are probably better off finding a possible alternate that is available or posting in the domains wanted section with the type of domain you need and your budget as $20 probably won't motivate someone to respond if they thought the domain was good enough to develop.
