How do you guys think about this ?

Google and the landrush
Google loves keyword based domain names and considers exact keywords found in domains to be a strong signal of a website’s relevance to a query.

An established website with a newly acquired generic domain and a good SEO strategy, could find itself ranking among the top stops for competitive terms relatively quickly. Of course, links trump domain names when it comes to gaming Google, but a good domain can go a long way.

Domains such as http://car.insurance (switch “car” for any other kind of insurance you could imagine to get an idea of the scale) will be hugely attractive for branding benefits alone, not to mention the SEO potential. Owners of such generic TLDs will have an interesting choice; resell domains under the TLD, or use them to dominate their niche .......

The example you gave is the reason I feel .property is worth more than

Property.com :)

I understood this is not a new topic already. Here, I am more concern about the effect of Search Engine.

As we knew, a website basically has two main traffics - type-in and search ranks. True, car.insurance will not have a matched type-in traffic as carInsurance.com for a long long time. Or it will never have it. However, it might have a better SEO potential compared to carInsurance.com or even insurance.com. IMO, brandable ability seems not much different between them. Furthermore, search engine will become more and more important due to the confusion of mess TLDs. So the question is, in the future, which one is more important for choosing a domain name, type-in traffic or search engine favorite ?

Those are the questions ... how long will it take for the learning curve

to propagate to the masses ? it will all depend on who gets the new

tlds and how well they are marketed to the world ... if Google gets

some of the keywords for example ... it can lead to fairly quick adoption.

good question james. i've given some thought about this as well and here are my initial conclusions...

- domain names do help with seo, but seo includes much much more. off the top of my head i'd say a domain name plays less than a 10% role.

- imo, some extensions are more trusted by google than others. the one day blogger/.info complete removal from the serps hints to that.

i think i agree - remember though google changes their algorithm.

i feel like the public (and even domainers) are starting to 'get' what a domain actually is... one day it'll be as understood as a postal address IMHO, and people will be happy with whatever sounds right

Agree. Imagine that Ford got .Car, Metlife got .Insurance, Sony got .Game ... Will this change the game plan in each industry ?

I am not a SEO expert, but I believe you have rational points here. However, just a reminding that Google has the ability to chagne the search rules any time to adopt the mess TLD changes, doesn't it ? Of course, .com might get more weighting instead. So far, only time will tell.

I really hope not. But it truely should be one consideration for us.
