Hi.

I just recived this letter:

Hello

I see that you have just purchased the zmmz.com domain. Until
very recently I owned this domain, and was still using it, except
that the registrar (1and1.com) has deleted my account without
notifying me, and cancelled my registration of the domain.

Would it be possible to negotiate with you for me to reclaim the
domain name, since you have not yet started using it?

Thanks for your understanding,
Alex

I think I have parked the domain though. How should I respond to the letter?

Respond to him and say, sorry for your hard times, you can purchase this domain for (whatever you want to price it at) and if he says no then never respond back to him.

Does this look like a good reply?

Hi

Xxxx (my first name) here. Does 3K sound like a good price for the domain? I have other people that are interested in the domain too. Therefore, I need you to respond within 48 hours.

I will gladly consider you bid to buy the domain. Please get back to me as soon as possible.

Best regards,
xxxx (my first name)

1. Don't let HIM pressure YOU

2. Go through an escrow service

Failing to follow those will probably result in massive failure. That is the best advice I can give. Don't let him pay you via paypal etc. There are sooooo many things that can go wrong.

Don't feel forced to sell it either.

Yes that sounds like a good reply... just go through escrow.

I have learned many times the hard way. Good luck

reps added bro, thanks :)

My questions:

1. Do you think I can ask for 4K, he really needs this domain you know.

2. How much is the esrow fee on?

TordB.com

if you really want to sell it
increasing the price may cost you a loss of sale

I wish you well with it

I haven't sent the mail to him though. Although, I believe you have a point :).

Does everyone agree that 3K would be a good price here? I am pretty new to this.

It's quite possible he's just giving you a sob story to make you more likely to release it to him. Keep your business hat on.

Although every time I hear about 1&1 it seems they suck.

Does he mean zmmz.org, not zmmz.com? zmmz.org has the same whois as (assuming yours) tordb.com, while zmmz.com does not.

Actually, I was fairly sure your opening post said zmmz.org when I read it the first time...now it's edited. :?

Tord i said change it to something less obvious like ZMMZ (dot) org, not misrepresent your name by changing it to .com?!?

For what its worth there is nothing there on the wayback machine from 2005 unless he has made it private for the .com. The best way to work it out is how much is it worth to him? How much is it worth to you? If your close perhaps meet in the middle and reinvest it In something more solid.

Good Luck

it is actually zmma (dot) org, I just changed it in case he googled the domain or something. I am going to send him the mail now. I believe he is a good guy.

Hopefully you're not expecting $3000 for this domain name.

That's what I wrote to him though. He needs this domain, if he can't get this domain he'll probably loose some traffic. Moreover, I think it is better to start high and then lower it after some negotiation.

Wow, I thought we were talking about the .com because it says .com in the initial post.

.org changes everything

Forget all the talk of going through an escrow service with the .org - the fee's would be cost more than the domain IMO.

Personally for the .org would be alot harder to develop so I would probably give it back to him at a fair price. So in response to your question about a good price, 3k is not a fair price for the .org IMO and actions like that are what gives domainers a bad name IMO. That is my opinion about the fair price.

Also the thought of you increasing the price of the domain because he needs it is very sad to hear as well. Do with it what you will, every person's ethics are different, as we are all different people from different locations.

I didn't increase the price though. Moreover, I want a high price for it because I believe rare .org's will be popular in the future. Nothing more than that.

I think you just killed a good deal :(
3k is way too much; little chance the guy would oblige, but you never know.
In case he does agree, do an escrow to make sure your payment is safe and its not a scam.

The bold section is accurate. You didn't increase the price from what you originally mentioned ($3000). The problem is, the only reason you weren't encouraged to try a lower price is because people thought that you had the .com. The .org is worth roughly 1% of that.

If you think that its future value will be enough that you want to seek $3000, that's your decision. However, my suspicion is that the happiest email you'll receive back is no email.

Also you did earlier write:

He needs this domain, if he can't get this domain he'll probably loose some traffic. Moreover, I think it is better to start high and then lower it after some negotiation.

That's not quite the same as:

Moreover, I want a high price for it because I believe rare .org's will be popular in the future. Nothing more than that.

:imho:

3k for the .org??? more than a lil overpriced there. No way he will buy, probably wouldn't buy it for 1k.
