My second .tv was a nice GEO, a city with 1 and half million people.

Before to tell you the city name, my question is regardless of the city name , how much would you pay for it, knowing that it has a very good Overture result?

(just to let you know that when it was public that I regged a .tv , the Hurricane Dean was born the other day :'( )

Thank you

If it has a nice OVT, it could fetch at least mid xxx (undeveloped), imho.

Depends on how wealthy the city is, how desireable it is to live there, and whether there it is much of a tourist destination.

Totally agree with the above. As well as what country the city is in like if it's a popular country like the US

Hi Italiandragon, very hard to assess without additional information - otherwise my WAG (wild ass guess) would be wider than a football pitch. Cities with less than 200k population have sold for $2500 recently (re DesMoines.tv) and some larger one's grabbed for reg fee.

The only clue you give is the population and the OVT - you don't mention whether its ASCII or IDN? Whether the OVT is for the country in which the city is located? Whether you have the city name in its local written form?

In addition, some cities are also product names or movie titles so receive good search numbers for different reasons. (which implies a different type of value for your name)

If its a city in the developing world with low literacy, minimal internet infrastructure, with most living below poverty levels, will make a HUGE difference vs a wealthy, beautiful, hip, tourist destination.

So the range of value is reg fee+ (worst case) to $10k (best case & you caught a dropped name with the cache of Beijing!) Cheers Carryon

hello, thank you for your very nice and useful reply, it was a pleasure to give you good rep :)

Ok, you have good points there so I`ll try to clarify them:

The name is in ASCII , it is less than 10 letters and it is the original version of the name as it known internationally and locally, the locals are not chinese or Japanese.

OVT is high 4 figures based on US overture , so the OVT of that country should be higher.

It is not a touristic destination , it is a big city , a big industrial city. :)

mmm name of the city has changed???

could be in india...?!?

Bombay / Madras / Calcutta...?

If its any of the above, expect high xxxx and maybe more for ur name.

Presuming its Indian, any metro would fetch u a good deal of moolah imo.

As the others have said it depends a lot on the population, attractions, tourism, sports teams, media companies and all the obvious factors.

Also is the City name spelt 2 different ways for English & for that countries language?? This of course depends on IF English is the 1st language for that area or not. Many European Cities have an English spelling & a spelling on their own language, this could reduce the value depending on which spelling is used most.
For example i own Andalusia.TV, Andalusia is a region of Spain but in Spanish it is spelt Andalucia. This splits the traffic with most English people looking for my spelling & SPanish looking for the other speling so of course value is lower than normal.

One thing worth thinking about is how important that City is, does it have a major political, cultural, historical or even transport link that makes it a highly important city?

Are the .com, .net, .info, .org taken &/or developed?
Have you checked past sales with this City name in any extension?

With the high population and high overture then i would guess this isa important City with some kind of tourist attraction to have lots of people searching for it online.

It is impossible to guess on value without knowing so many other factors but high overture & population is a great starting point.

If this City is in Europe then i wouldnt expect a high sale price YET as the European Geo market isnt as active as USA, there has been very few sales so values are hard to predict.

Good Luck!

Thanks Italiandragon,

Now that you've told us - it seems to be a very nice find. I don't know much about the Indian domain market, but I like the fact its the largest city in Punjab, AND....

www.punjab.tv is a properly developed site!!! (another nice find to add to the dev list). Also the dot com is used by a technology related company on a re-direct so a real opportunity for someone to create something for the local market with no .com competition. So clearly there is some value with your GEO.

Congratulations! welcome to the .tv bretheren.....a second reg means you're hooked, a slippery slope indeed. Cheers, CarryOn

Well,
Nice find. BTW, the name is not as much popular as of the top cities Bengaluru,Mumbai,Delhi,Pune,Chennai and Kolkata. As an Indian, I know how tricky is selling a domain name (even it's a .com) in Indian market. Most of the people in India even do not know the .tv namespace. Don't take my words as a negative tone. This name would go for nice value, provided you have to find a correct end-user in Indian market.

All the best. :)
