when you disclose a domain sale, it seems beneficial to a domaining community because it gives a comparable sales data to those with similar domains, giving some perspective to sellers and buyers of the price range.

it could be argued this tends to benefit domain sellers more than buyers since it provides one more tool that is available to them, which could be useful in sale negotiations to justify a specific price range. so the reporting of domain sale reports should have a positive impact on domain prices with more sales reported vs if no data is available and everybody is more in the dark about what the going rates are.

if you are a domainer and you are selling , and you have an option to Disclose or not disclose which one would you choose? Would it be safe to assume that most domainers would opt in for disclosure?

if most domainers would preffer to disclose, then if a company asks for a NDA, then obviously the domain should sell for more, as this NDA which doesn't benefit you, only the company, is like an extra feature that you are agreeing to in a contract. So if you agree to an NDA how much more should it cost, 10%, 25%, more or the same?

what are your thoughts on this subject?
anyone have experience in this area?

I would say that a majority of sales don't get reported. Personally, I've never reported any of my sales/buys, but I'm not a person that sells much as I don't have that intention.

In regards to who it benefits, it benefits both buyers & sellers when sales are reported. That way sellers know a rough value of their names & buyers know a rough value of how much they should pay for a name. Or course, this is for reseller pricing usually.

The only real reason why I could think of for a company not wanting their buys to be reported is they don't want their competition knowing what names they've bought or they are not wanting people to know how much they've paid, maybe because they are looking to buy similar names as well & want to buy as cheap as possible.

IMO the buyer should be free to keep their acquisitions confidential. The client is always right, so don't charge them for the privilege of not advertising their sales ;)
As a client I would not like it.
