Hello,

I'm wanting to develop a couple of websites and have a question regarding the relationship between monthly traffic/income.

How much traffic do I need to my website to either attract local advertisers or to see some revenue from the adsense progarams?

My sites will be primarily in niche categories so I'm trying to get an idea of a minimum number of hits per month that would be enough to generate some income. Also, how do you determine how much to charge online advertisers? If a local company wants to sponsor my site, what is the going rate based on the amount of traffic that I am generating?

Thanks in advance for your replies. I'm new to web developing and greatly appreciate any feedback that I can receive.

Local advertisers

There is a pretty low threshold for generating $$ with Adsense. Even with low traffic volumes, 100 uniques a day you can make money.

With Local Advertisers, it is very different. Local advertisers are bombarded with advertising options. Unless you have decent traffic numbers or a unique brand (for example the city .TV name or a vertical that matches their type of business), then you will have a hard time attacting local advertisers without a sales force.

In most cases, you need to have 100K uniques a month or more to attract local advertisers since you will need to have enough traffic to support nationwide coverage (even if you only focus on the top 25 markets).

Check out standard CPM rates based on size of ad.
