I will be promoting my domain via mainly forum posting (by discussion and picture posting), posting articles on my 20+ active blogs, article submition. Therefore,, they will neither be spam or junk links.

So, can someone tell me from experience of first-hand knowledge of how many search engine (mainly google) back-links you need to sell a .com domain for at least $2500-3,000?

And how long does it take to achieve the amount of links you need by working how many hours a day?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

But why exactly $3000. Why not $2000 or $4000 ?

What i am asking for is can you just make money by a selling a site that has tons of backlinks even if that site bring little traffic (500 a day), keyword is not popular, and is not considered a authoritive or one of the authority site in its niche?

For example, if a domain evolution.com had about 300,000 backlinks but little traffic (500 a day) will you buy it and if so for how much?

I recently sold a two-word .Net for $3000 with ~50+ backlinks. The key was it was a highly-searched phrase and the domain/website ranked on page one of Google and high on page one of Yahoo & Bing. That way the new registrant was able to launch a website and instantly be ranked high and have decent traffic from day one. For most search phrases it will take far more backlinks to rank well. Note that the buyer never inquired about my site's traffic or earnings. Since I still retained the rights to the site's written content, I relaunched the site a couple of weeks later on the same keyword domain in another extension. However, I will have to start all over again building backlinks.

I bet it's imbossible for anyone to say without seeing the domain. There are so many factors to consider... Why don't you post your domain to the appraisals section?

I sell domains all the time for around $3k with no backlinks and no website or mini site or anything. People just want the name.

Backlinks don't necessarily mean anything. In fact, the vast majority of backlinks are worthless.

What you should be looking at instead of backlinks are the traffic figures generated from those backlinks. Another thing you have to ask yourself is if the backlinks are going to provide stable traffic over a good period of time or if the traffic dies when the link building (or spamming, in your case) stops.

With forum spamming, the older a post gets the less views it gets. So it's going to be a constant uphill battle to maintain new traffic.

I concur with this, I recently got hold of a program which shows exactly what your link values are...the vast majority are absolutely worthless and do nothing for your back links value in that on the scale of 1 to 10 they are worth 0.0000, not even 0.0001

A domain that has valuable links from others in its own niche is always going to be worth far more than a domain that has billions of backlinks from every corner of the world, which have no relevancy.

This is like asking how much you can see a car for without knowing the make, model, or year.

I suppose that is not a question of number, that is question of quality instead.

Well I guess that a forum based on backlinks only isn't worth 3000$ no matter what. Only if you have backlinks from google, yahoo, wiki and so on. You need traffic and produce an income at about 300-400$ per month.

Most buyers won't care about the backlinks unless they want the domain for parking or the backlinks are in the same niche of the site to be developed. Either way the quality of the traffic from those links is more important than the number, as mentioned before.

High SERP is crucial. "If" peopley find Your web, they might do something there. But if they don't find You, they cannot visit You. SERP depends upon search terms and web content. Change content and SERP changes. If a new domain owner publishes a website with other content it will be necessary to input other search terms to have the same SERP as before. Backlinks, page rank, name length, TLD, usually don't matter for SERP. Domain Name (SLD) and Page Content - That's it!

It does not matter how many backlinks it has, if its a good domain name with good keywords, you can sell it for a lot.
