What quality do you think the names were? Hand regs, I assume, according to the sales prices.

Also, I find it very very interesting how some were interested in the name even though it had nothing to do with their field. Like these:

  • Somewhat interested, but that is not really our field. What are you asking?
  • It's not really related to our business and is really long with no traffic.
The very most I would pay is $100 for the name.
    Thanks,
Interesting. Why do you think they would be interested in a name unrelated to their field?
And you seem to have gotten a lot of maybes.

With outbound it's really a numbers game. Well that's with any business really.

Expect to get a lot of NO's. Also, expect to get a lot of "leave me alone" lol. Part of the game. One thing I noticed with our strategy is pricing. I think sometimes, we all expect to get a lot more for a domain than an end user is willing to pay for it.

We've sold domains via outbound and it's something we still do today but where I like to focus a lot of time is in the outbound FOLLOW UP. What do I mean by this? Basically, I save every single domain inquiry I get from someone who is interested in buying a domain from my company.

These leads are important. Make sure you follow up with them to see if they are still interested in the domain name. Remember, they contacted YOU FIRST and showed interest, so I just try to stay in contact with them and see if they are still interested.

By doing this, I was able to land several sales, one which was a Lease To Own type sale were they didn't want to pay the lump sum in one payment, so I broke it up to a 12 month plan.

Hope that helps.

I sent 603 emails (for 14 domains) in the previous 30 days. I got 14 replies. For now I've only made one sale ($388) and two failed sales ($200 and $100, end users hits "buy now" buttons but then disappeared)

1.
Hello, Thank you for checking, but I am not interested. Thanks again.

2.
Thank you so much for the offer. My company does not provide xxxxxxxxx services. But because we have several domains about this subject, I might be interested in this domain. But not for that price. If you would consider dumping it for a nominal price, I would likely be interested. Because no one provides this service nationally, and few refer to it under this name, its not likely worth very much to anyone. Thank you again.

Thanks for reaching out! That's a little high for me. How close can we get to $100?

Consent In Australia, commercial electronic messages sent to you must be sent with your consent. The Spam Act provides for two types of consent - express and inferred. This is illegal!

The names that require outbound and selling at a xxx price level should not have more than a couple of realistic endusers at most.

It is spam. How many are even sending from a real email address?

Not sure. I can only speak from personal experience. When doing outbound, I'd recommend always sending emails from your @companyname email address.

Some people can look at it as spam and some don't. If you are offering a domain name that is highly relevant to the person you are emailing, then in my opinion it's fine. If you continue to email them if they specifically tell you that they aren't interested, then that's a problem.
