I can buy a domain I need from someone for $80. However, he has no paypal account. Using an escrow for such a small amount is hardly worth it. I can send a check and trust him, but I don' know him.

Any ideas?

If I ask him to create a paypal account just for this, does he have to put in his bank account and all that, or can he avoid all that and have them just send him a check.

I think for such paypal cases, the most obvious option is to go for alternatives like Moneybookers.com which covers a lot more countries (almost all) than paypal, in terms of send/receive/withdraw options

Paypal really doesn't take that long to setup and it's initial registration is quite simple. However as mentioned above I have heard good things about moneybrokers as well. If you do decide to send a check make sure your write what the check is for in the memo field in case any disputes should arrise.

It all depends on how much you would miss that $80...

I would also assume you contacted this person and not the other way around? If this is the case, most of the time these people are pretty honest, since you made the contact and not them. I would use a Bank Check or something along those lines that you can track if they cashed it. Delivery Confirmation etc.

If they are in the States as well - Federal/Postal Money orders cost very little and are pretty secure up to 1000$ ....

The trust issue on Domain Transfer/Push would be the problem.

if someone is-online/has-domains and does not have a PayPal you should consider the possibility he might be a scammer and had his account cancelled

of course , though , there are many people that are online that are-online/have-domains and don't have a PayPal account without being scammers

if he does not want to open a PayPal account (or some other e-payment account) for legitimate reasons ... and has domains at GoDaddy ... a good idea might be to buy him a GoDaddy GiftCard for $80 which he can spend for renewals or new regs

of course , the only issue is who transfers what first (as also mentioned by Mark) ... the person who is to transfer second (either the domain or the money/giftcard) can potentially scam the other party and therefore none of the 2 parties might want to transfer first
