A while back, one of my parked .com names had a significant increase in traffic, to the tune of over 10x, almost overnight. The spike in traffic occured shortly after someone registered the .net version of the name and put a site up. The name is a good one that was taking off on it's own, prior to the .net site going up- traffic had more than tripled over the past 4 mos and the click thru rate has consistently been at a remarkable 40%-50% as a parked page w/o additional promotion.
I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has a .com domain and has been the beneficiary of of a .net site driving a large amount of traffic to it. Click thrus at the landing page increased from 20 clicks/da to 200 clicks/da and have stayed there. This month the click rate has gotten better, and has actually shot up to 60%. Whoever is behind the .net domain must have a powerhouse operation and, frankly, seeing this does give me the feeling that I have been twiddling my thumbs w/ my own optimization, but, believe me, I'm not complaining.
Any analysis or light that you could shed on the dynamics that are at work here, as well as, any suggestions for a course of action, would also be greatly appreciated. It looks like my original plan to set up a site w/ Adsense and some affiliate partners, just got sped up a notch.
At this time, I feel compelled to hold back the identity of the name, but will fill you in later, once I've done some additional research and have my ducks in order. Tx
