    Samsung 8K VR Mobile ?
(a few days old and I forgot to post it when it was new)
    https://www.androidheadlines.com/2018/09/samsung-possibly-developing-8k-upscaling-tech-for-vr.html

I would not look forward to this at the consumer level for 2 years.
But, at this level and if you combine those fold-able displays, and 5g wireless, you have what may be the best value in a HMD (provided the price is not a killer).
For the fold-able display will allow for much higher field of views and the 5g will allow seamless tethering if a tracking station is made or a more refined gps/mag is used and the 8K display says it would be hi-res in VR, providing a actual 1.7 - 2.4k res as seen by the viewer depending on that FOV.
All in the phone you carry (+accessories) ? Makes the price point a bit better.
A mobile CPU/GPU that can handle this is far from production, so is why I base the 2 years for consumer production at best. But it remains to be seen if they have any major kinks in that fold-able display.

If they can achieve this at a price is yet a question. But there is no doubt where they are headed.
Combine this with other things you see coming in the market and you can see that VR is reaching it's 'respectable level' it has needed. Will content keep up ?
It will take some HMD sales numbers to get many dev's to dabble in VR past where we are.

SEDO just added some sorta exclusive expiring domain auction
    http://elaine.sedo.com/go/woy9409guc833p0kks0iulmcea1ngrw8khhk4g4k02qo/1094

Perhaps someone will find that gem VR/AR drop in there somewhere.
A look at it and you will understand why they are dropping.(like most any other drop list)
It's always good to look them over on occasion to keep your head on straight and remember what is NOT a good name. Problem is, many have been reg'd 2-3-4 years and I'll bet the only reason most are dropping is the owner has to much overhead in names.
What to do in domaining is not always clear. What not to do can be if you allow it.

    Yet one more VR Arcade.

Funny thing just happened few minutes ago.
At the Apple event AR Quick Look was mentioned so I decided to check if ARQuickLook.com was registered or not, it wasn't but I wasn't interested in registering it, I rechecked about 15 minutes later and it was already taken. I wonder who the new owner is :)

Well big news right now and another example of just how fast things change in tech, XR is now a term associated with Apple and iPhone not VR/AR.

What you’re going to get now with the iPhone XR is when people type ‘XR’ into Google/Social media is pictures and news of iPhones. Any news linking XR to virtual tech from this moment onwards is going to be swallowed up by the iPhone.

Social media (for the next few years) you’re going to get tweets coming in every few seconds like “I want an iPhone XR” “I’ve just bought an iPhone XR” “I’m fed up with my iPhone XR”.

TV you will see iPhoneXR adverts, go to shopping centres and see iPhone XR billboards, walk down the high street and see iPhoneXR on the side of buses, iPhone XR advertisements when browsing the web, phone salesman trying to sell people iPhone XR phone variants.

All that gets imprinted into people’s minds, after this unveiling by Apple I can’t see how can speakers at VR/AR events and people involved in VR/AR in general whose job it is to get more people into virtual tech can try promote the term ‘XR’ alongside VR/AR anymore when everyone will best know the XR abbreviation for the most popular device which is like another limb to people (mobile phone).

Many people involved in the VR/AR industry have been vocal on social media in the past how XR confused people, as a term it had many obstacles to get over even before Apple wrapped their flag around it, this all but ends XR ever representing immersive tech in my opinion.

It’s not the publicity you want though and you’re clutching at straws.

I’ve had it done to me with Merged, I planned for that though when i bought the domain so now in plan b mode. I hope people who invested in XR have a plan B.

End of the day Apple is the largest company in the world, when they sneeze everyone catches a cold and what they do or say everyone fellows and when they do something with their no1 product (iPhone) and add an abbreviation next to this product (iPhoneXR) and using that abbreviation to something different what other people are using it for, what other people are using it for is over.

To me it looks like it’s possibly even a deliberate move by Apple to end the XR abbreviation, they are in Silicon Valley, they know tech terms. This shows me they will never be on board with XR in a VR/AR sense, which is massive kick in the balls in itself as far as XR ever being a publicly used term for VR/AR.

Merged was a loser from the beginning .
XR is already a money maker and its only the beginning.
But again , I will surely let people know soon enough.

Well least i have a plan B with that.

I think you know deep down how it is, so hope your just saying that, if not and still in denial i strongly advise you open your eyes to what as just happened and the effects it could have to investments.

People involved VR/AR industry know what impact this announcement could have for XR in VR/AR as they are typing their concerns on social media right now, you know that too because every tweet i click on there is a reply by you like:-

This was my plan B. I only have about 20 domains for XR. I still don't like Apple doing this.

I guess it's a XR War right now.

Glad the tongue thing took it down a notch (y) thought you was getting a little personal there, hence why i responsed way i did.

I don't want to see anyone lose money on investments, I'm just commenting on a major situation whats just happened and giving my views on the impact this could have.

I do it with my own investments, been called a naysayer in the VR thread even though i got hell of a lot of money invested there, end of the day there's a lot of bullsh*ters in these types of threads, whereas i try to be straight up with things and just type things the way i see it even if it has a negative impact on me and my own investments.

Me commenting on this is just my own views on big announcement and the impact it could have, i could be wrong.

But I'm certainly alone in my views in that this not good news for XR as far as representing VR/AR.

I think it's not good news, but oh well.

I would love to see Apple say that "XR stands for extended reality."

I agree that Apple have clearly hijacked the term XR and stolen it’s thunder. If they don’t intentionally reference the XR/Extended Reality connection in their current or future products then it’s goodnight for XR as the all encompassing terminology.

Apple did not steal any thunder.
If you want to count the idea that right now on first day of announcement, XR is already a term recognized to Apple, well, what does that say for the term beforehand ?
Outside of a few small segments, it was not really known for anything.
Probably better known as extreme racing more than any other one thing.
So, who's thunder did they steal with the XS model ?
I think most have overthought the impact of this.
If a term is strong, nobody is going to steal it.
For our niche, it is still a non exactly described term that is everything and nothing at the same time.
Trying to have your cake and eat it too.
But the only reason Apple would do such a thing is that Samsung has the trademark on the term as I have mentioned many times. Not that they can defend it. Especially when used as a model number.
I see it as Apple provoking Samsung to try to defend this undefendable trademark. (spend money).
What will happen if Samsung stops this super hidden promotion they have been doing with the term ?
Will it stand the test of time by itself ?.... We Shall See I guess.
Either way, it's not going to affect my day. I don't understand how anyone can be concerned with this.
I do find it interesting to watch it play out though. Waiting to see if samsung takes the bait.

EDIT: BTW... If it matters any... Apple did not say their phone had XR technology. They did say it is a AR enhanced device. Same as the XS.

Do I think Apple using the "X" and "R" is a great outcome? NO

But lets be real. Every reference they made in spoken language was "10" & "R"

There is no crystal ball to say Apple will never use the XR term in another way in the future.

They are big on the AR keyword now and rightly so. AR is a perfect terminology for where their mobile tech is currently positioned(y)

After only a few hours the search results for XR already seem to be leaning towards Apple rather than Extended Reality.

That in my book is stealing thunder, maybe we interpret that term differently but that’s how I see it.

Is the iPhone XR (10R) a phone model though mate?

In 12 months (or less) time a new name will be out.

XR was always going to be a future umbrella term for these emerging techs. And by future i mean considering the next 10-20 years in mind.

The iPhone is not the only product model in the world to have been branded XR.

It's almost like saying if Nokia comes out with NokiaVR, and it's not a Virtual Reality enabled phone then Virtual Reality (VR) acronym is dead because of it:ROFL:

Btw, I do get people's arguments/concerns. But it's thinking short term Vs long term imo

VR & AR acronyms have many different meanings.

Vacation Rentals used to steal a lot of the news results. But as these trends grow, things eventually even out.

if it was anyone but Apple then i would totally agree. I've no doubt their short term adoption of this term will fade relatively quickly. The timing of it just confuses matters as the early stages are essential to success of any brand or categorisation .

Who know which way it will, go but as the renowned philosopher Dr Seuss said, 'A tree falls the way it leans'.
