High Dollar Sales at GreatDomains Dominate New DN Journal Weekly Chart

The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. Sedo's GreatDomains.com premium auction site runs a week-long sale once a month and a fresh batch of completed transactions from that high end venue dominates our all extension Top 40 sales chart this week. As we always do when a wave of special event sales comes in, we doubled the length of the usual 20-position all-extension leader board to insure results from the everyday venues are not overlooked.

GreatDomains piled up 19 chart entries, including the top five and ten of the first 12. Their parent company, Sedo.com, also flexed their muscles by bagging 14 chart positions with sales from their daily platform. That gave the GreatDomains/Sedo juggernaut 33 of 40 positions overall.

Five country code domains broke through .com’s dominance of the Big Board (.com took 32 of 40 positions) while non .com global TLDs (a .net and two .orgs) claimed the three remaining openings. You can get all of the details here: http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm

Some of the sales listed were not sales but the final bid on Sedo, for example, I bid $4,500 for KKT.com but I didn't win it because the reserve was $5,000.

Thanks Sir Regalot. I have been alerted by two domain owners that their names, reported by GreatDomains as completed sales, did not meet reserve. I have removed those names and I have asked Sedo/GreatDomains to review every name on the list of completed sales they sent out to look for any other errors. It does look like some names that didn not sell were inadvertently placed on their list.

I just heard from Sedo - they implemented a new domain sales reporting tool this week and it had a bug that resulted in a large number of unsold domains being listed as completed sales. We are starting the clean up in the article now. Thanks to everyone who quickly brought this to my attention.

Using a corrected list Sedo provided we found 22 GreatDomains sales that they reported as completed sales had actually been domains listed for sale that did not meet reserve. The problem occured due to a bug in a new sales reporting tool they implemented this week for incorporating GreatDomains sales into the list they send out. The article has now been updated with the incorrect entries removed and the chart positions adjusted accordingly. Thanks again to everyone who brought this to my attention so we could work with Sedo/GreatDomains to get it fixed a soon as possible.

The entire column and charts were redone as soon as the error was found. The report online now is accurate.
