Have others received enquiries for English hack domains from China?

I have received 5 enquiries in the last month for some of my English domain hacks from China/Chinese sources. My question therefore is simple, have any other domain hack owners also received enquiries?

In the previous 6 months only one enquiry could I trace to China or Chinese sources, so this uptick in enquiries from the region may just be a statistal outlier but thought it would be prudent/sensible to check with other members here before jumping to conclusions. :)

Yes I had got an enquiry asking for the price of the domain name Semiconducto.rs
A great domain hack.
I had quoted high XXXX $ for the domain name. But no response from three months.

They dont have many choices of things to invest in here in china. There's a huge investment community for creative domains. But they're pretty cheap.

@domainsmgm - It does seem to be an uptick in enquiries from China. I don't know if it is with all the new gTLD's that have come out that it has suddenly sparked their interest or what. (I should say that when approached I just ask for their best offer (which of course rarely is the top offer they will go to ;)).

@art.work - Welcome aboard Namepros. :) Hopefully being Chinese you will be able to give some insights to other members on varying aspects of the domain business in China.

As 3 of the enquiries I referred to above concerned Fig.ht I have spent a few hours this afternoon checking out the MMA / UFC / similar sports scene in China - and I have to say I have been amazed, I just never realised it was so big and growing so fast. There seems to also be a thriving and growing community of Chinese fighters entering into the international arena. (I should say I am not a fan of MMA/UFC so haven't kept an eye on the sports for several years since acquiring the domain Fig.ht here on NamePros in an auction quite a few years ago.) This could possibly explain the sudden spike in interest, but it could also just still be a statistical outlier, and the lack of other domain hack investors (with the exception of 'domainsmgm') posting on this thread may support this.

Hmmm, perhaps I had better look at seeing how to list some domains on 4.cn or how to contact Chinese business leaders in MMA / UFC / RUFF, etc..

Would still love to hear from any other domain hack investors concerning any inbound enquiries from China or even asia generally.

I am not chinese, just trapped here until the end of time. The interested parties are domain collectors, not actual businesses. Its a hobby and investment for them. But they cone from all walks of life, so sometimes some rich guy will do something like pick up 8.xyz for 120k usd, which is silly, but he thinks it makes him look cool. Kind of like buying a bmw, kind of. English hacks go for a lot less. A friend of mind just failed to buy c.at for 10k, he was pretty sad. For some reason i dont feel net.work is a hack - that fetched 100k.

@art.work - Apologies that I made the erronious assumption you were chinese.

I have been doing some more research today and WOW - how things change in such a short time. UFC sold for $4billion, Fight! magazine no longer running (good news for me), and that is all on top of the news coming out of China about the growth there. Still no nearer though as to why the peak in chinese interest.

As no other domain hack domainers have posted (exception being 'domainsmgm' of course) indicating an increase in interest from China I will let this thread sleep. Either the enquiries are a statistical outlier or there is a real interest from China, just have to wait and see. :|

I've heard various explanations, but this seems to be the most accurate. Investments are not just made to get a return in China. Rather, an investment also appears to affect social status. Paying higher and taking greater risks tends to have a positive effect on your status in Chinese society.

In comparison, your investment means nothing until you can prove that it was successful in most places.

Chinese or not, I would be happy to sell my best hack for the right price...

I just need a way to inform domain "collectors" that it is available.
