Hi everyone,
I've been tinkering for the past month and decided to spend a weekend testing a forum project in a relatively popular niche. Just wanted to share some of the process and thoughts—hopefully it helps, and I’d love to hear from others who've built forums or communities and can share their own war stories.
The niche I picked isn’t new and definitely has competition—it's centered around digital nomads + remote work. But what I’ve noticed is, most of the existing stuff is blogs, info sites, or tools. Actual communities with a forum vibe are rare. So I set up a lightweight forum using bbPress + BuddyPress as a test.
1.I used Reddit and Quora to drive some initial traffic, posting threads like "Which countries are best for long-term remote workers?"
2.Also joined some Telegram:@spanmob groups and DMed a few active users to invite them to check out the forum
3.I set up a few topic categories from the start: Visas/Migration, Remote Work Tools, Freelancing & Income Streams
