So this guy today posted on Twitter announcing the alleged acquisition of Brand dot com - an extremely valuable domain name.

Fakebuyer1.png

The problem?

The domain's Whois details haven't been updated since 2017:

So what's going on here? It seems to me that this is one of the fakest domainers around and I'd advise everyone to treat any interaction with him with caution.

Btw, this is the same guy who said he'd buy Alter dot com but then resorted to cheap/weird excuses to back out of the deal.

The same guy who's been posting 25 dollar sales on twitter 🤣

Why didn't you tag them here to simply ask them?

His profile here shows as being inactive. But this is the kind of responses he's giving:

Not a lot of room for a meaningful conversation there.

What's his background? Company? Name?

I'd call bs if hes an unknown

I don't think the "unknown" part is a problem here. You can be unknown and have plenty of money to spend on digital assets, especially with the crypto gains of the last several years.

That said, pretty much everything about what this guy says is fishy. So, again, caution regarding this person is advised.

I love those "$25-$50 sale! Acquisition Cost: $20 = PROFIT!" Twitter-heads.

Here's the twitter handle of the guy.
I believe him.

The Twitter username was already visible in my first post.

If he did indeed buy Brand dot com I will apologize to him.

It's just hard not to be suspicious when you say you sold a domain for 8 figures:

while at the same time Tweeting stuff like:

Wut01.png

or:

Wut02.png

But hey, weird stuff happens all the time, right?

P.S.: I've attached screenshots because Tweets can be deleted.

Interesting.....Now Godaddy lander is showing instead of Sedo - so has this fool actually bought it or does he know the person who has?

You act and and talk like a tw&t it makes people think twice before believing in something......
Interesting case indeed. There is still some (or maybe a lot) to explain when it comes to the Alter deal.

Ultimately, you can buy assets as much as you want, but branding is also about a good reputation, can we agree on that?

This isn't necessarily proof. Maybe the actual owner of the domain saw reports about the alleged sale and wanted to make sure someone didn't steal the domain or something - hence the update.

Anyhow, it's not totally impossible that the Twitter guy bought this. He still doesn't seem - to me - like someone you'd want to do business with.

Interesting back story - it sold back in 2013 for $500,000

https://techcrunch.com/2013/06/21/brands-brands-brands/?guccounter=1

https://venturebeat.com/2013/07/05/biggest-domain-sale-of-2013-so-far-500k-for-brand-com/

https://www.morganlinton.com/techcrunch-covers-brand-com-domain-purchase/

Then mysteriously disappeared.......

https://technical.ly/startups/what-happened-brand-com

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand.com

When the company filed for bankruptcy did someone buy the domain? If so, who?

One thing is certain this Twitter fool has not bought it......

As I read the Alter thread he backed out of the deal?
The personality that was interviewed by our esteemed Bob, appears to be a completely different personality from the one who killed his own (and Alter's) reputation shortly after.

While posting those 25 dollar sales, he also announced he had sold a domain for 8 figures last year.. and showed a Wise balance of 12 mil euros..
I'm confused!
He could show a picture of his hand on the steering wheel of a Ferrari, but I still wouldn't believe its his Ferrari (or his hand)

Yes who is takes some time to update.
Actually no. A whois update at this registry happens almost instantly. I made my whois query to them directly. As you can see at the timestamps, the whois change happened shortly before my query. When I looked earlier, there was no change yet.

I wonder whatever happened to this massive 42.69 BTC giveaway?

If anyone still believes anything this guy says... please do yourself a favor and stop.

And regarding Brand dot com, it would be super easy for this person to prove he bought it. But he can't prove it because he didn't buy anything.

As a side note, probably 99% of all Crypto giveaways on Twitter are fake.

Mmm, yeah. The $25 sales sold it for me

It's a fact that he bought Alter marketplace. You can confirm that from the Alter thread.

And since he was able to buy Alter, do you think brand .com is something he wouldn't be able to buy?

About selling $25 domains on twitter, it looks weird, but you need to understand that people are different; and the motivation for doing things differ.
Domaining for him might be like a game. You want to play a game everyday.
The small sales makes that possible.
I read the Alter thread and can't see any confirmation he actually bought it? Can you post a link showing the sale has been confirmed........

As I read the Alter thread he backed out of the deal?
He didn't back out. I followed the updates here (including posts that were later edited) and on twitter.

Here's the progression of events:
1. A Namepros user (Charybdis) made a complaint about some installment sales and some issues that followed.

2. Deven (Alter owner) responded (you can see that on the Alter thread).

3. Deven made a statement that the guy was MIA and that could be illegal (and irresponsible).

4. The guy saw Deven's post and got angry. According to him, Deven wasn't saying the truth as there's been recent correspondence. So Deven was misrepresenting facts. Also, he said Deven's post implied he was into something illegal.

5. Due to the above, the guy has decided to sue Deven for being a LIAR. He's also going to make Alter a porn site when the change of ownership is finalized (so good bye to Alter, unless there's a change of mind).

Smh at the down votes on the post above. 😁
I don't understand.
I'm only narrating what transpired.
Did I miss anything out?

I think you are the only one who reads the Alter thread that way and probably also the only one here who believes in the buyer - It does sound rather crazy to me that he has bought Alter, sued Deven and wants to turn it into a porn site - LOL

I honestly don't see how all the points you listed above led you to believe the deal was done. I'm 99% sure there is no deal at this time.

I think you are the only one who reads the Alter thread that way and probably also the only one here who believes in the buyer - It does not sound plausible but rather crazy to me that he has bought Alter, sued Deven and wants to turn it into a porn site - LOL
