Great news for RegisterFly domainers (Free dreamhost account)

This is actually a great deal.

Make sure when signing up you choose the option for "I already own a domain, I want to host it AND transfer the registration for free!", enter a domain currently registered via RegisterFly, and use the promo code "FLYAWAY" at the bottom!

The Fine Print:
This offer is for new customers only - those who do not have an active account with DreamHost.
If you sign up and forget to use the "FLYAWAY" promotional code, you WILL NOT receive the sale pricing (FREE). No amount of complaining will change this!
Domains and accounts may not be transferred from an existing DreamHost Web Hosting account to a "FLYAWAY" hosting plan.
We reserve the right to deny this sale pricing (FREE) to anyone at our discretion.
This sale will remain in effect until 11:59 PM PDT, March 31st, 2007.
At the end of 12 months, your account will be automatically extended at the current (non-discounted) rate. You will then be asked to pay for your account if you'd like to keep it. If you do not wish to continue at that time, you may close your account via our control panel.
No referral credit will be provided to referers of customers who sign up for this promotional sale.

So basically you get about $120 worth of hosting and a year renewal on your domain for FREE! I had domains I was going to let expire but heck...now I get a free year of Dreamhost account hosting. Not too shabby to use for a backup host or to spread some mini sites across different IPs (SEO purposes).

Choose for 1 year L1 service and use the coupon FLYAWAY and you pay $0 to start the account and initiate a domain transfer from Registerfly.

Enjoy.

Sweet deal and great find. I moved all my domains with value from there last month, but wouldn't you know it one .info started seeing traffic and has already done over $5 this month - probably worth moving... especially for free!

Signed up and already in the control panel.

Rep left - thanks.

few questions;

Can I push domains with dreamhost?
Do they take my cc details?
Am I able to transfer out?
Will they accept multiple domains or is it just the one?

Can you push - don't know - but I didn't much care as I was going to abandon the domain anyways - I'm more for the free hosting!

No they didn't ask for any CC details - no payment details at all actually. :)

Everywhere has to allow you to transfer out.

They will only transfer one domain for free from regfly. But you can add unlimited domains to your hosting account.

Hope that helps!

Yeah I saw this deal last night. I had a dreamhost account for a year that I paid $25 but when the year was up I dropped it. Then last night I was just telling someone to try servage instead vs dreamhost...so I went to see their pricing and that special was shown in a pop (god bless the popups). I was like no way! Cool deal for free. I already have a nice little plan for it.

Just signup and use the promo code FLYAWAY. You will see on invoice that it's free.

Signup for a level 1 account...enter a domain to transfer that's at RF (must have an auth code and domain unlocked).

I posted the entire text of the offer above.

I guess it is really good news for registryfly domainers who want to get a hosting. I'm glad ICANN took some action and de-accredited it. I heard about a lot of troubles in regards to registryfly.

Apparently people who formerly had a hosting plan with DreamHost are not eligible for this promotion.

As long as the domain comes from regfly - no.

ok so here is the scenario:

i have a domain example.com regged at registerfly and expiring on 1april 2008

i transfer the domain to dreamhost then i will have to pay in totol 0$ for 1 year renewal + 1 year hosting?? am i missing something? this is too good to be true?

also, i lately transferred out all my domain out of registerfly..

please look at this.. if u have a crappy name (i dont mind long, short, non pronunciable )which u r not planningto renew then please sell me that name ? http://www.namepros.com/namebucks-np-sales-and-auctions/309096-wtb-registerfly-domain.html

Thank you for the info.

Just noticed, the promo account got ftp as

FTP Server: refresco.dreamhost.com

I have used DH before, and the L1 plan is jolt.dreamhost.com

Anyone knows is there any difference?

thx

Whats the cost of transferring the domain away to another registrar after one year or so? Surely DH must be charging users for transferring the domain to another registrar once the free hosting period is over? I'd hate to have my domain stuck at DH 10-11 months form now.

I had a DH account just 2-3 months ago so I don't believe this is true. Did you owe them a balance? Is your DH account currently active? It says in the sale not eligible for current active customers.

Names don't get "stuck"...icann has rule to help facilitate domain name registrar changes. Personally I ain't worried about it. Names aren't that hard to move...unlock, get auth code, and transfer away...that's it.

Names do get stuck if the registrar charges a fee for outgoing transfers and you can't afford to pay them or don't have a CC. Surely DH has to get its money back somehow? I am worried that once I transfer my domain to DH it will hold it hostage once the free hosting period is up and I want to move away from DH. Surely your aware of this tactic widely used by webhosts?
