Great domains has offered to life smartdieter.com up for sale on their website. I would be interested in knowing what people think I should have my asking price be?

Great Domains has a "suggested" asking price on the domain, but I am wondering if it is legit. I would like your unbiased thoughts before I accept the offer to list with them.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated. This is my FIRST offer to be listed with Great Domains.

Well, GD is known for setting prices unrealistically high, but they do make sales. So regardless of what the asking price 'should' be, let it ride for a while at what they feel they can sell it for.

Is it unwise to set a higher asking price than they suggest?
Also, are you familiar if you can raise your asking price later (ie after the site has increased traffic or is developed)?

Not necessarily, as long as you are not in a hurry to sell the name. If you don't mind holding onto the name for a year or two, start with your highest price and see if anyone bites. If you're looking for a quick sale, then asking for a price higher than GD suggests is a bad move. As for whether or not you can raise your price later, that all depends on what GD wants to do at the time. But I doubt they would allow you to raise the price if the name isn't getting any nibbles.

Positive Rep. left for you. Thanks!

I'd have to say that I would start with the lowest price of $5,000, and if it sells, you made a lot of profit!

I would like to sell the domain, but I don't want to list lower than I could potentially get for it. GD suggested a price higher than $5k though.

Well, maybe you should ask for a higher price, and if someone really interested, I bet they would bargain with you, right? So, you won't lose money, as you still have the chance to get a higher offer ;)

ask for 10 and accept 5-10.

Whilst I am very pleased for you that GD have offered to promote your name I would be very interested on how they come up with their prices.

Smart Dieter has very low Google results and zero on OV ,currently parked at Sedo with 4 visitors in the last month.

As this is up for appraisal I would not have said much more than $xxx unless there is something we do not know :?

Anyway it will get exposure , so the best of luck.

It's only been parked with Sedo for about a week and half. May I ask what google results you are talking about? I do agree with you, GD is somewhat arbitrary on what domains they do and do not take (along with their pricing).

58,200 results for a phrase is a very poor amount. THats not even the real keyword. Great domains sets the name up way to high. Set to 5k and hope for some end user to buy it. I would say you would be extremely lucky for 5k...

Sorry, no information is available for the URL smartdieter.com

compare that to my
Results 1 - 10 of about 341,000 for Mitsubishi.tv

any site with 50+ google results does well.

Regards,
Sam

I'm not sure if we are comparing apples with apples. Smartdieter.com has several keywords: "smart" (258,000,000 google results) "diet" (83,400,000), "dieter" (13,400,000), "smart diet" (6,820,000 with no quotes), " 'smart diet' " (63,400 with quotes), and " 'smart dieter' " (1,160 with quotes).

Correct me if I am wrong, but based on these key words, I think the domain has higher potential than you are giving it credit for.

i think its worth much less. $mid-high xxx the "smart" can be replaced by a handful of other nouns. so the domain is not 5000$ unique

if someone is willing to pay 5K they will also be willing to pay 20K because it must be worth more to them for other reasons.

I would very much have to agree with noname on this. I know there is a difference between a "smartdiet" and a "smartdieter" but if I was talking to someone at my household it would be " we need to be "diet smart" I can not see that name going over $500. Saying that, I have seen some of the very wild prices for names I could have owned on DNJournal.

Sorry to say but that was the most illogical standpoint. 1,160 is NOT GOOD with quotes.

This is from google:
Results 1 - 10 of about 17,400 for "dead balls".

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q="dead+balls"&btnG=Search

Results 1 - 10 of about 191,000,000 for dead

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=dead

Results 1 - 10 of about 36,800,000 for balls

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=balls

Deadballs.com is available to register. Perhaps you can sell that one also for $5k+ :yell: .

Personally I would at most pay Low $XX for it.

Hi,
I do not think that GD use google results as a strong figure to value the domain. They put strong value for "the most meaningful name". Let see MedicalDirect.com, only 19000 google results BUT it has been asked for over 3000000usd
