Horses love to run and jump but cows definitely don't like going to the slaughter house and monkeys definitely don't like spending their life in a cage being experimented on. There are alot of things that would be banned in a perfect world but the Grand National is a long way from the top of that list in terms of total suffering inflicted.

I was so engrossed in the race and the fact my daughters horse actually won that I never even thought of buying a domain. But if I had, would it really have been worth it?
Is there REALLY a benefit in buying the name of a winning horse that may only race again for another two to three seasons?
Sorry this is a separate thread - but the other one was a bit too off-subject.
By the way - I had a massive problem putting on my bet from Germany to the UK via the internet.
Oh, and the winner was called Comply Or Die - no doubt owned by our very moderators (only kidding - please, please don't ban me)
Seriously though - any value in buying horse winners - it wasn't exactly Seabiscuit.

I can't see where anyone said it should be banned,Horses do love to run and jump, but the jumps on the National are ludicroulsy and unnecessarily tall and deep. and jockeys do not need to whip horses like they do.

Those are your words, not mine. I'm just pointing out that most people are incredibly hypocritical about animal welfare. They think it's OK to eat meat and use drugs tested on animals provided somebody else inflicted the suffering on the animal but then they pick item number of 9,637 on the list of things that cause most suffering to animals and get on their soap box about it to make themselves feel or look like a good person.
Personally, I would ban the use of the whip but your comments about horses being whipped until they bleed, implying that this is the norm, is an exerageration. British horse racing rules explicitly prohibit use of the whip to the extent of causing injury.
