Trump was voted into power by the people and a large part of his selling point was this wall. Not building the wall will play into his hands and get him elected again because he'll be able to say "I'm trying to actually do what I promised (which makes a change) but they're not letting me". Soon you will start to notice the lack of government on a personal level.

The real cost of the wall is not $7Bn. It's much more than that. It has to be manned, and maintained etc.
It is a manufactured crisis to distract you from real issues and you fall for it.

While I'm not fond of government in general, the way civil servants are being treated is less than disrespectful. Being furloughed or forced to work without pay amounts to slave labor.
They have families and bills to pay just like every single one of us.
Not cool at all.

I am not that old but I remember. You are spot on. People think that borders are for their protection, but they forget that borders are two-way filters. You keep some people OUT, but you also get to keep some people IN, you make it more difficult for them to leave if they are unhappy or fed up.
When East Germany built the wall they told their own people it would keep the saboteurs, profiteers and smugglers out. Some people actually welcomed the move or were not overly concerned.

Nowadays there are many Americans who cannot obtain a passport due to felonies, unpaid alimony etc. It's becoming more difficult to travel without a passport, even in the North American hemisphere. Ever wonder why ?
