I imagine my posting record here has made clear what I think of most new gTLDs - junk that will thankfully not clutter the internet for too long a period.
One of the few new gTLDs that I do think makes sense, though, is .news - it can make semantic sense alongside almost any brand, phrase or term.
BMW.news - knicks.news - horseriding.news - knittingclub.news - smithfamily.news - internetofthings.news
Anyway. Reluctant as I am to add any fuel to the fires of the ngtld zealots, I was interested to see that Google is using http://unfiltered.news as part of jigsaw.google.com, a media innovation project designed to protect rights and promote free speech.
And actually, I honestly think that http://unfiltered.news is better than unfilterednews.com
The only downside being you have to write http://unfiltered.news to flag that it's a URL, rather than a typo where you've hit the period rather than space bar.
