GoDaddy Error In Your Favor: Collect 2 Free Domain Names

SpaceshipSpaceship
Watch
So......

The other day I was picking up a couple of domain names. Because they were just dropped from a taster, I needed a Live availability checker. Since you cant do that from the customer side @ Godaddy - I called up to register the names. They were successfully registered and were in my account within moments. I checked GoDaddy's whois and there I was!

About 30 Minutes pass and I recieve an email from GoDaddy saying that the 2 registrations had failed....... =(

I check my account and low and behold the two "failed" registrations are in my account.... weird....

So, to be double sure, I changed the DNS to a parking company and what do you know? The domain points there...

A few minutes after this happens I recieve a Refund notice from GoDaddy that they have refunded me back for the 2 domain names. Today it hit my account and still I have the domains... Yay for Bank Errors.

Just like Monopoly.

You honestly think there is no chance that they'll catch it later and just delete the domains from your account?

It happened several times to customers when I worked there. Im not stressing it at all. Do you think they would rather lose a few dollars over a system glich or lose a customer who buys/renews a few hundred domains per year? Who's fault is it? Certainly not mine. I even called in to register them. Also, Executive accounts (which Im sure most of the larger domainers here are) have a special department called retention that handles our accounts. They dont do that to retention customers.

Nice. Now it's a better reason to register with GoDaddy!! ;)

exactly what was the condition this happened?

Last time when I had to call in, she said that she uses the same reg database
as me. I asked why the domain was "not avaiable" to me but available to other
registerar's, she could not explain why but she kept saying she uses the same
database.

First and foremost let me explain the "levels" of customer service @ GoDaddy.com - Many of the Customer Support reps are not as trained or knowledgeable in the workings of the domain industry and thus are not familiar with how the processes work.

From Bottom to Top:

Customer Service / Technical Support
Billing Department / WWD (Wild West Reseller)
Retention / Executive Accounts
Office of the President

------------------------------

Now, the truth. GoDaddy on the company side does search live availability. You do not on the customer side (fact!) Thats why it will be available at some registrars (like Moniker and NameCheap) and not Others (GoDaddy, ect).

Hope this helps,
Justin

You really shouldnt take advantage of Mr. Parsons like that. He really cant afford it.

I think Mr Parson's will be just fine, and its not me exploiting the system. Its the system erroring in my favor.

BTW - when GoDaddy was going to go public, they tallied the amount of shares and valued them per share, did you by chance see what it added up to? I believe it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 600-700 Million....

Im not worried about his finances, I think hes in better shape then just about anyone else out there.

I dont mind giving advise on how to handle situations at GoDaddy. I enjoyed my employment there very much and am still good friends with many people who still work there. I hope no one hesitates to ask!

Just wondering (as i have an a/c exec):

1/ what is the min # of domains to be allocated an exec account exec ?

2/ how many a/c execs in total?

3/ Is there a min price for .com renewals that they can authorise ? (offered 'best price' $6.95)

4/ how many accounts does each a/c exec manage?

5/ do a/c execs get % compensation of spending done thru them (if you renew domains thru them instead of online by yourself)?

6/ how difficult is it to have each exec a/c 'hardcoded' with the discounted domain price so that you can DIY instead of having to send emails to them, wait for them to process it etc...

7/ one gripe is that they never let you know or assign you a new a/c exec when the previous one goes...and only know when you try to contact them...

1/ what is the min # of domains to be allocated an exec account exec ?
This varies, the range is not by total domains but by total sales, the biggest spenders in teh company become executive accounts.

2/ how many a/c execs in total?
Not positive on this number as I left in Septemer, but I believe it was around a dozen.

3/ Is there a min price for .com renewals that they can authorise ? (offered 'best price' $6.95)
This will vary depending on your account and depending on what promotions they run.
4/ how many accounts does each a/c exec manage?
Unsure, but I know its a lot.

5/ do a/c execs get % compensation of spending done thru them (if you renew domains thru them instead of online by yourself)?
Yes - they used to recieve a little bit from domain registrations, they make much more in other services. This also goes to toward their daily quota, and if they make certain dollar amounts, they get better teired bonuses.

6/ how difficult is it to have each exec a/c 'hardcoded' with the discounted domain price so that you can DIY instead of having to send emails to them, wait for them to process it etc...
They will not do this because of the commission factor. So unless they give you their discount codes... which I can assure you, they will not.

7/ one gripe is that they never let you know or assign you a new a/c exec when the previous one goes...and only know when you try to contact them...

You can ask to speak with the Executive Accounts supervisor and see if they can assign you a different rep. They will most likley do this.
