1. Start off with Reading and learning. Dont just jump in and start buying. Remember "Its Easy to Buy, but Diffcult to Sell". The better your domain is, the easier it gets to sell. So u need to know the market before you start buying.

Get Domains with Traffic. Leave the domains with "nice name" but no traffic for other moment (there are many "nice" portfolios earning nothing out there).

Focus on domains with traffic:

1) Type-In Domains
2) Typo Domains (with traffic)
3) Expired Domains (with traffic).

Good Luck.

A large percentage of domainers are bargain hunters. Most domains are not great bargains. Some domainers have awesome skills developed over time at finding the bargains. Others have an awesome network of people to sell to and sell average bargains to people who cant find average bargains. Most struggle to do either.

Often the best domainers only find a handful of bargains and find something else to do with their time.

i still consider myself somewhat of a newbie and Krossat has a great point. I started buying some domains about a year ago and now they are coming up for renewal and i can only shake my head at some of the garbage i bought when i first started. Luckily i did not spent much to start with.

Good advice, Krossat. I agree with you Turner10. :D Sometimes, no matter how many times expert domainers give out free advice, new domainers just don't quite listen and apply. I've made mistakes even after I had been warned. Big example: when the LLLL.coms were still available at reg fee...

I have 11 domains (undeveloped). I have decided I need to spend my time & resources learning how to do this right, so for now I won't be getting any more domains.

1 good developed name can be worth way more than thousands of domains.

Have a set small budget you can spend on domains every month. Depending on how much you want to invest, you can increase that amount as you grow more knowledgable.

I had acquired some good domains when I first began but the bad domains outweighed them 3-1. I've read similar from many others. Learn from our experience and study up first.

In general, shorter is better. I'd recommend only registering .coms until you get a better feel for what the other extensions represent and their corresponding value is.
