Getting whois info from registrar where cybersquatter is using whois privacy

I know I've read this somewhere before, but can someone refresh my memory how you get a cybersquatter's information from the registrar when the cybersquatter is hiding behind whois privacy? (this assumes the registrar is being unhelpful)

I don't believe ICANN has any policies for this, so I'm left wondering if you have to threaten action against the registrar if they don't hand over the registrant's whois info.

Hmmm...out of pure curiosity, I gotta ask: Why would you want their info...and, why do you call them cybersquatters?

You need to contact the privacy company and ask what they require. For some it's a simple request from a lawyer..for others it's a court order.

To answer #1) I'm helping a client gain control of domains that are being squatted on. To answer #2) the persons are cybersquatters as they wouldn't have a chance in hell at winning a UDRP/WIPO decision.

Letter from a lawyer is already on the way, although the registrar has been less than amenable to assisting us.

If the registrant is using the registrar's privacy service, the registrar will reveal
the information upon receipt of a Court order or UDRP notice. For third party
WHOIS services outside the registrar, Court order's likely needed to force the
issue (unless the privacy service provider's the type to bend over backwards
upon the first sign of a legal threat).

I'm curious to know what registrar if you don't mind posting that info.

Also, some might preserve the privacy, but still anonymously forward a legitimate email or letter if you ask them to.

I'm going to let things settle down and hopefully the registrar will come around. I'd actually prefer not to post the registrar because it may give more encouragement to squatters to use this particular registrar...
