"Oil and gas giant Total will be rebranded as TotalEnergies as it shifts some of its focus towards renewable energy sources."

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57282008

Looks like the .com changed hands this month and is now registered at Nameshield

Currently has a website not found page

Namebio shows it was bought via Godaddy in 2018 for $207

    Registered in 98 extensions (DotDB)

Hopefully the seller got a decent price for it......

There is a lot of news atm about the oil and gas sector needing to cut emissions and how they are going to do it, plus loads of people have strong views on climate change so not surprised by the amount of comments.......

I personally don't see the point in the change, in fact it's not really a change. It's just tagging the word energies onto the existing name.

Unless they sell off Total.com and the rest of them, nothing has really changed :giggle:.

At least they didn't just throw their existing brand down the toilet like some companies do.

I'd understand it more if they were British Gas...

I'd ignore the moaning that goes on on the BBC website, from both the editors and the commenters. Most of the moronic fools on there don't realise that most of the luxuries that they enjoy today are powered by the oil giants, though I find it laudable to want to ensure that they're not decimating the planet or the peoples of the world whilst they do it, if they stopped then a lot of people would die in pretty short order. Hopefully this net zero stuff is viable without wiping out the quality of life that we currently enjoy.

Meanwhile, on our side of the pond,
Exxon just lost fight, forced to add 2 to board, replacing two incumbents 12 total seats.

I think you’d like this piece, Nick.
It summarizes all the victories - big or small in the renewable fight and big oil adapting future.

Can't see them selling off Total.com can you? Never say never though, some of these companies make head scratching decisions sometimes......

British Gas are a waste of space - all the UK energy providers are shysters.........there's some smaller companies out there pushing renewables, but to small and new for me to take the plunge atm

Yup, that's never going to happen, no matter how green they want to go. I predict it will be a temporary measure until they can drill it into people's heads that they're a green company.

On the subject of energy suppliers I can highly recommend octopus.energy. They're on a new gltd but don't let that put you off :xf.grin:.

Interested parties may look at occidental petroleum https://www.oxy.com as an example of an oil company 'goin green' - they did this years ago.

    Thanks @NickB

    The Hague, May 26, 2021

The Hague District Court has ordered Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) to reduce the CO2 emissions of the Shell group by net 45% in 2030, compared to 2019 levels, through the Shell group's corporate policy.

Total will be their next target:

After Shell climate case, case against French Total now follows
