Its the kind of domain you see on ebay for $100,000, but personally I wouldn't even pay the reg fee for it, especially as there is a legal battle going on for the trademarked term 'ipad'.

Apple actually allows first-level domains with apple products in them. They don't allow second-level domains.

I'd consider deleting it. I mean, unless you think you can get enough to cover potential future legal fees. And considering how big a company Apple is.... I'm not sure you can get enough. Get as far away from this trademark infringement as possible is my advice.

you sure about that? what about macbookpro.com that was just recently taken along with a handful of other trademarked apple names. It was recently discussed here

Explain this please? What do you mean they allow first level domains and not second level domains? Also where did you get this info? Do you have a source where you read that Apple allows this activity?

I think he's just assuming, since he's seen so many other Apple-related domains on the web and eBay specifically. Obviously, that's not the best way to get news. Domaining is serious and I think he'll want to read up on the laws before continuing. Apple is just not one you want to mess with from what I hear.

Thats not true, the word "iPad" is trademarked, you cannot use this in a domain, you are better off looking for names that arent TM's, especially when learning the ropes

I would "grace delete" the name and try again

iphonestore.com has been up for years without any problems. I'm sure they're making tons from that site. Apple seems to only go after those owners that use their sites to HURT the trademark in some way. There are countless iphone****.com names on the web either parked or selling products that Apple doesn't seem to care about. That doesn't mean that they won't change in the future so it's still a big risk. As for iPad...it's not Apple's trademark in the US. It's Fujitsu's and they let it expire or something so it's being fought over. I think it'll be quite a while before that's settled.

I think the important thing here is to educate people who are new to domaining. If the OP had read and understood the Tm laws before he regged the domain, he would understand that he was entering the bad side of domaining. The fact that other Tm sites are up and running is really not an excuse. People break laws every day and get away with it. It is everyones choice which direction they take, but most reputable business people would not do business with cybersquatters. The pure volume of domains which infringe on trademarks make it impractical to prosecute every one of them, and the biggest concern of businesses who rely heavily on the internet, is people stealing their traffic. He may get lucky and not get a C&D letter, but then again, he may be the one they decide to make an example of.

Even though some get away with it, in my opinion, this is like Domain Russian Roulette. How long can you pull the trigger before you have a major headache? And playing that game with a "gun" like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Sony.... well, that's some firepower. Sure, you and others may get lucky and never get the "bullet", but it's in there and when it reaches you, watch out.

Actually even if he sold it. The new owner if he/she gets in legal trouble can go back and sue the person who sold the name to them for damages. Its always a risk to cybersquatting and TM Infringemnt. Sometimes you get away with it and sometimes you get caught. Personally I would drop this name and run. I dont think it has any value with or without the TM issue.
