India Get Online, free .in registration if you are trying to get your business (probably Indian) online.

and name cheap is giving a free .me registration for students here

These are what I know and they are for a purpose. Other than that no registrations are free as far as I know.

P.S - Some registrars offer free .com domains if you buy hosting. e.g ( godaddy? maybe bigrock )

Most of the websites gives the domain name for FREE if you opt for any web hosting plans with them.

Some are costing just $1 per domain......http://www.1and1.com/

I dont think there are any sites offering .COM completely for free, but you can use GoDaddy and promo codes:

There are codes even for $0.99 so thats as close to "free" as you can get.

As people have already pointed out, you won't get a free lunch. However, here's a great site that does domain price comparisons across all TLDs and the most popular providers:

You can see that the only 'free' items are in the Transfer tab. i.e. there are no free new registrations.
