Hi,
I have a PR4 and had to cancell hosting. Now just the domainis by hoster names.co.uk but is masked forwarded to webspace of another domain at host 1and1 which has no PR at all. What happens with the PR then. Do the links on the domain with no PR get the same benefits as if they were on the actuall PR 4 domain?

Could you guys share your opinions ???

Thanks,
Cosmo

it depends...you may completely lose PR, or you may get something from that PR4...but not all

do a 301 redirection and you'll be fine..

Forwarding in pagerank terms is seen the same as a link. The new pr0 domain will get the same amount of points that it would if it were just a standard link from a pr4. The links pointing to the pr4 domain will not affect the pr0.

At least, that's what I think will happen.

Do what bentong said...PR should follow.

You have it reversed.

If you use a 301 redirect to redirect a PR4 to a PR0, the PR4 will lose all of its rank.

If you use a 301 redirect to redirect a PR0 to a PR4, than the PR0 will become a PR4.

yes, pr and rankings will lose from the old domain but it will be pass to the new one. meaning, you'll see your rankings to the new site based from the old keywords..

Right, and that's after the next PR update (someone double-check that for me, but I'm pretty sure).

Yes. I had done the same while changing domains. My PR was just interchanged.

a 301 will transfer the incoming links and hence PR to the new website. It will happen quite quickly although the PR shown in the toolbar wont change until the next update.

Thanks for all your help....
but the thing what I still do not get is if there is a diffrent between doing the 301 redirect or just "forwarding" it. By forwarding I mean this option which the big hosters offer....click "forward domain" fill new domain adresss in... and done.
Thats what I am doing untill now.... how will that affect my PR??

Thanks again...

Forwarding will not transfer the PR.

I'd recommend sticking with the 301.
