I recently acquired a great dotUS name. Domaintools was advertising it for sale at SEDO when in fact it is NOT for sale. Apparently the past owner let the name drop from network solutions and never updated their classified listing at SEDO. This name is for sale on SEDO for $10,000usd.

I have come across this problem in past and I am sure allot of us domineers have. I think these selling services should be more automated and detect a who-is admin change or detect the domain dropped and let such listings expire from their DB. This ad from the former owner on SEDO is running another 45 days

I've read other stories in past about others contacting SEDO in regards to problems like this one and SEDO putting them through all the Red Tape to prove themselves as the new owner.

But I'd take the $10k :)

what whois service do you use? better use the whois from where you register it, since that's the updated one.

The who-is DB is fine but DomainTools is detecting it "forsale" at sedo still

Sedo doesn't monitor whois unless there is a clash, meaning you try to add a domain that is currently in someone else's account. Just add the domain, and it will flag it to be checked and they'll delete it from the other guy's account. Then if you don't want to sell it you can delete it from your own account.

The resources for checking whois on over 11 million domains on a regular basis is absurd and make it nearly impossible to keep up with it.

i no longer deal with sedo , i have seen my names for sale there before , its just because the previous owner did not delete their sales listing of that name , but even as a non sedo account holder i have contacted them and requested my names be deleted from the sales charts ....... it took a few emails but in the end they deleted them

This must be a painful process for SEDO and other services unless some other types of enhancements are made to be more automated.

If the former owner of the domain let it drop then I am almost positive they would not care about removing a free classified listing. I should make an offer through sedo to the former owner and see what kind of response I get , if any. LOL

if a domain is listed in sedo and u aquired and want to list in your sedo account

then this problem occurs those lazy supports wont do anything to new owners :|

so you can ask the old owner to delete that domain from his sedo account

Send Sedo an email telling them that you own the domain, it is not for sale, and you want the sale listing removed. I have requested this from Sedo and there was no problem.

just give a call to sedo n they will delete the name from the previous owner's sedo acct

also this happens if the domain has private registration ( even if the domain is new )
