I've had around 40 names taken out of the zone during the last few weeks. They were removed because I failed to respond to some spammy looking message which had a spoofed sending address - in fact it purported to come from my own email address. It seems I need to verify the whois details for every name, despite the fact that the details are exactly the same as those in my default details, These have been verified numerous times, and even have a couple of verified credit cards associated with them. It seems that now I have to work through all of my names to verify them individually. So I'd like some advice from you guys.

Is this a standard feature with all registrars these days?

Will verification and a return to the zone prevent me from transferring these names for 60 days?

I guess that this is not a common practice amongst registrars as I haven't had any replies so far.
I'm a bit concerned that these rules are being used to extract valuable names from portfolios, and I have lost a lot of names during one period when I was having a number of problems. When an unexpired name is extracted from your account, it a time consuming and lengthy process to reclaim it. I'm told that this is aprt of the new ICANN rules, but I find it difficult to believe that people with (say) 1,000 names will sit there cutting and pasting links from apparent phishing emails.

I'm hoping to find a registrar who will accept that validated registration details can be used for multiple registrations.

sory if I missed something but which registrar are you talking about?

I get a lot of emails to check my whois info.. whether doster or others.. but every single one of them says check if info okay.. if okay then don't touch anything and move on.

cheers.

I too get that kind of email from registrars but never had anything to change and never seen one of my name removed from my account.

What company?

Seems to be standard if you are going to engage in bulk registrations at like $1 or something, they probably want web hosting clients, and not domainers bleeding $7 per registration out of them.

I did a whole bunch of those 1$-2$ doster regs.. and got an whois verify email for every single one of those domains.. so that part is true.. however, like I Said each email said to forget about it if the info is correct.

so he must be talking abotu another company.. maybe some weird european stuff like reg123 or somehting

It's OnlineNIC

and the names are .com, .xyx and one .gold

Unfortunately I've deleted all the emails, and had to request copies, I have reactivated the names from these copies, and they all appear to be resolving now. It was a massive problem for me, and it involved a lot of research and discussion on various boards. I even registered a new name, and started this page over the problem.
http://manageyourdns.com/english-gold-problem.php ( this became one of the names during my investigation ).

I am grateful to Bryan from WSWD hosting and Joe Rodriguez from Instafree for their help in this matter.
I was a bit out of my depth when it came to authoritative servers at the registry and above level.

well that clarifies it then.
I think msot of us knew you;d not be giving a name like namesilo or godaddy or dotster etc.

I don;'t even know what onlinenic is.. and after hearing about your troubles, I will certainly make sure it stays an unknown to me.

I tried to transfer a name to GD, but I hit the 60 day barrier. I wanted to confirm that it was a registrar problem. I think the transfer gets activated in a few days, so it will be interesting to see if this problem has reset the 60 day block.

I'm quite interested in namesilo, and I hope to move a bunch of names over to them soon. I need to work out what their charging structure is, and whether I should pay in Sterling or US dollars.

Well I've just received the transfer request from GD, and I've activated it, as I'd already paid for the one year extension with GD. We'll see if it gets blocked because of the activities of OLN. So far it's looking normal.

The name has gone into my new GD account without any problems. I did receive an email from GD which wasn't flagged as spam, and this asked me to click on a link to verify the email addy. I did this with an immediate positive result. They indicated that failure to verify the address would result in temporary suspension as well. Is this because it is the first domain that I have with GD, or will they also require verification of every name in future?
