Too early to sell the best of new gTLDs.

A simple rule for at least the next three years. And you need to stay away from resellers if you want to sell for good money! :)

Well I will just hold on to my curative.life

Something went terribly wrong here...

I think maybe Mike Mann was at thee auction and everytime someone bid on these GTLD's he was probably throwing mad shade or stank eye at them maybe even rotten tomatoes. lol

like "Really? you gonna bid on THAT domain? Dotcom's Rule!" lol

In my opinion, they need a panel choosing the names to include in the world's largest domain auction. These names, in my personal opinion, were a very weak representation of top premium ngTLDs. That guy picking the names is not very good at it.

There are much better ngTLD domains out there. They just picked really lower end domains. In my opinion.

With the ngTLD's, there is no reason they couldn't have had strong LL and LLL domains with stronger extensions.

With all the money that was in that room, the auctioneer must have been embarrassed.
And next, we have boob.tube... (I almost fell over). Silly really.

I completely agree regarding having a panel select the domains to be entered into auction. It would add trust, value and transparency. To further clarify, the person that selected this year's auction should absolutely NOT be on that panel for the many obvious reasons.

wow wow wow Travel.Agency?

That's nuts! speechless! didn't that sell for $10K? lots of good "sales" there. is this a sign of the times? I guess not many Endusers ended up going to Namescon as one would think? crazy. kinda depressing

You are right I knew people who got rejected for category killer type domains for being in the live auction, and they put in boob.tube?

I really don't understand the selection. It was really bad in my opinion. They should have had nothing but the best domains there. Instead, some of the domains there wouldn't get to $30 here on NP.

Using boob.tube as an example, look at the recent sales of similar domains:
boob.io 525 USD 2016-10-29 Park.io

I don't even think .tube is as good as .io generally speaking. Crazy!

I have recently hand regged:

fit.global
billing.global
ai.city
diy.earth
bedrooms.live
gop.one
crunch.xyz

Maybe they aren't the best, but at least as good as boob.tube (sold for 1.7k) or 420.shop (sold for 3k), in my opinion.

I just want to know who paid the $1.7k, I would rather play 1 hand all in on black jack, better odds. Even if you lose your money your not stuck paying renewals.

I actually think boob.tube is one of the better names on the list. Not a quality list at all. These results really have not changed my view on NGTLD names. $1500 - $3000 for mediocre to decent NGTLD names are right about what I would expect for right now, especially since those names were almost certainly bought for re-sale.

I just got GCMAF.xyz, GCMAF.top, GCMAF.club

Go into Godaddy and search for GCMAF.com and find out the "ask" for it.
my first time with .xyz ever never been a fan. but hey 99 cent's is not bad.

GCMAF.com has an ask of $50K

GCMAF is a supposed natural Cancer Cure among other things like Diabetes.

check out GCMAF.eu and GCMAF.se

New Gtlds are dead.

And the prices here should reflect it. As these Gtlds get flipped between domainers, the prices fetched get reduced, e.g. travel.agency. Time is against the registrant with new gtlds.

Now these prices are still way too much- they will fall further. But I get why it's a shocker for those who have their dreams pinned to these types of domains. If you are new to domaining, you should pay attention and cut your losses which hopefuly is not much (compared to what they could be if you keep renewing), and pay attention to the sales reports, the extensions, prices, etc.

Now, if you've been "domaining" for a long time, and have bought hundreds of these New Gtlds, I just feel sorry for you. Hopefully the feeling of being a "Pioneer" wears off sooner than later otherwise there'll be a deep hole in your pocket.

Domainers shouldn't actually be buying these. The Auction prices for New GTLDS are still way above what the end-user would pay for them, and so they should drop. The majority of these will be flipped between domainers while paying high renewals.

If the registry sells directly to an end-user for a high price, then those type of names will be reserved and sold that way, unless a domainer comes along and pays end-user prices.

i think the hype is no longer driving market prices.. basically domainers realise that they likely won't get rich from buying costly nGTLDs with high renewals. that is why travel.agency sold for that amount.

I never thought that travel.agency was a good name at least not for 10k. OK the travel industry is huge and there are many agencies but who is going to brand as travel.agency?

As I've said before the top ngtld domainers didn't even bother putting their names in, mainly because of the aggressive and predatory auction and commission structure. I totally agree with @Silentptnr, the person screening ngtlds should actually be an expert on them because this batch is very lacking in terms of quality and also in terms of actual emd ngtlds, which is where the real money's at IMHO. The sample of new gs people saw was a 4-5/10 ...waaaayy better names out there in much safer hands, I mean seriously boob.tube is OK at best but I wouldnt even consider it a premium, and it's extension really limits it's uses. I think names like find.work, credit.report, good.work, trade. online, Atlantic.City,
usedcars.forsale....those are the names we should be seeing at namescon , with fair reserves to respect the time and significant monetary investments made by the owners. Hopefully they step it up next year.

Prices are going down and will continue to down for premium reserved new g domains and renewals. For example MMX has completely removed premium renewals on .work domains and a few others like .VIP, moving to a reduced one time fee for premiums. Things are advancing a lot quicker than you think with ngtlds, I expect many more registrars to follow suit with this pricing structure as competition increases deep into 2017. Things are not what they seem and if your not watching carefully, you may miss out on some big opportunities.

Personally, within the last two years I have become somewhat desensitized to the new extensions. Two years ago I would have agreed that the new gTLDs wouldnt take hold but I have to say that has changed gradually over the past year. I think the same thing can happen with the general public.

I predict that some new gTLDs will become everyday domains like com net and org. Some will fail. The premium pricing will have to go.

Overall, for me, acceptance is happening. Just not usage yet.. But i believe that will come too.

To me, the uncertainty is what makes careful investing in new gTLDs exciting.. Im sure there was a time that noone thought a domain name would be valuable.

I would not be so quick to dump affordable, rare nGTLD domains. For those that can sit on their investments, time will tell.

I just think its way too soon to completely write them off.. The new gTLDs are different than net org mobi and other older non com extensions.

Smart people can disagree, but time will tell.

And by the way, .com prices have been somewhat depressed as well across the board recently.
